wasn't a shitty fight at all.. I have seen 100's of fights 10 times worse than this one throughout the years of UFC,MMA... Kimbo played it straight and didn't try and exchange with a bigger harder puncher... That is the way you would fight a boxer.... try and smother them before they connect.... as you can see kimbo tried to throw some punches and mercer was easily blocking them and if Kimbo stepped back like he use to in his street fights Mercer would of polished him off easily....

I still think that when kimbo came charging in like that Mercer should have did some side stepping to keep it on the feet and use the ring more...mercer was much bigger and Kimbo took it to the ground smartly....

Yea, I hear ya... I still want to see some more of Mercer... I am actually much more interested in him then Kimbo.. I like to watch bangers, but I would like to see Mercer display some skills and learn to control the ring more than what he did here. If he wants to fight again he needs to understand that no one will stand toe to toe with him and if he wants to punch it out, he needs to learn how to keep it off the mat. Definitley easier said than done.. he probably figured Kimbo was the best chance of a guy wanting to keep it standing up and sure enough Kimbo's corner advised him against it. guaranteed no one else will stand up with him.

Did you see mercer throw kimbo over with that stregnth? Man Mercer looked huge next to Kimbo and Kimbo is not a little guy.

I know it was his first fight, but Kimbo looked very impressive. Something that I seen in him in that fight is his will to win and aggressiveness. Those two combinations alone make him dangerous with his size. If he continues to train with Bas and company, watch out MMA.

I personally would like to see him fight Kimo, Cabbage, or Wes Sims after he gets a few more fights under his belt. Any thoughts?

I do, as I am a former professional athlete (football player). I've met many MMA fighters and get to chance to hang out with them and other pro athletes on a regular basis (because of my job and my friends that still play and the fact I live in Vegas), including Kimbo, and he is a very cool cat. I'm not a bandwagon jumper. I give credit where credit is due. You knock Kimbo without knowing the guy. Your perception is based purely on his ass whoopings that his crew has placed on the internet. Even during those fights he shows great sportsmanship even in his loss to Cannon.

I would like to see him fight a couple grapplers. Brock Lesnar would be interesting. That could be a huge money fight. I think with his agressiveness and strength (coupled with his size) he is very dangerous against other strikers. But when matched with a grappler would really show how well he would do overall in MMA.

Mercer is a man way past his prime and hes completely shot as a fighter. The guy was in wars with many of the top heavyweight boxers in the 90s. That will take a toll on yo. He didnt take this fight seriously. Kimbo trained for 2 months with Bas Rutten who is a legend in MMA.

Your argument is flawed in it's simplicity. Should Keyshawn Johnson not been offered a place on USC football team and a good NFL career because he only played one year of high school football? Should Hakeem Olajawon never been given a chance to play basketball because he never played basketball in school and only played soccer? The same applied with Christian Okoye and football. Brock Lesnar was offered a shot with the Viking even though he only played high school football. The list goes on and on. Boxing champion Nate Cambell didn't start boxing until he was 25, should he not been allowed to box because of his late start? Kimbo has to start somewhere. Kimbo obviously has been street fighting for years. Just like Lesnar been a wrestler for years. Don't hate on Kimbo because his team knew how to market him. I definately see the logic in your side of it, BgMc. I guess what is troublesome to me is all the people who still see mma as "human cock fighting" to quote McCain. Having a guy like Kimbo marketed for his debut by showing his street fights on promotional trailers doesn't help mma win over those who still see it as barbaric.

Kimbo, by fighting Mercer & training the way he did earns my respect. He executed a game plan and capitalized on it...that I can respect. Being popular & liking him because he beats people down in street fights isn't respectable and certainly isn't mixed martial arts, to me at least.

He won didn't he? To me that's doing well. Mercer was a good boxer, more accomplished than Kimbo and his street fighting fame. There experience was equal when it comes to MMA so it was a perfect matchup between these two. As old as Mercer is, you don't lose punching power with age. Kimbo fought a smart fight by taking it to the ground and submitting him. I'm sure as he gets more training his promoters will put him in with better competition, but the guy has to start somewhere. Stop hatin!!!
