Does nandrolone naturally occur in the human body?

I have read certain profiles on deca that say it doesnt, and I have read others that say it does. What is the truth here? And if so, how is it synthesized in the body?

It is produced in the human body in very small doses, then reduced to Dihydronandrolone.

I'm doing my pre-med at UT, and i remember specifically learning about this in one of my physiology classes, when i heard the prof. say nandorolone my ears perct up. If i remember correctly, nandrolone is secreted (produces) only in females from the ovaries.

It is a derivitive of testosterone, and found in both genders, albeit small quantities. If you do a google search on endogenous nandrolone, you'll find several resources on it's production.

I'd also like to know where in the male body is it synthesized? In the testicles? If not, then where? Is it converted from something else via an enzyme?

It is a progestagen, which is synthesized from pregnenolone(dirivitve of cholesterol), like all hormones in the body are.

Cholesterol and pregnenolone are the starting point. From pregnenolone there is two paths that could be taken

the delta-5 synthetic pathway with the intermediate product dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and the delta-4 pathway with the intermediate stages progesterone and androstenedione. Both steps are regualted by enzymes, and nandrolone metabolites are a very small bi-product from the process.

Excellent info, but you are wrong there. Not all hormones in the body are steroids. Many are polypeptides and are therefore not synthesized from cholesterol, but from certain amino acids.

i think he was referring to sex steroids (test, estradiol, nandrolone, dhea, etc etc)....other hormones such as t3, oxytocin, and the like are polypeptides but are classified differently.

Thanks for the clarification. I've read articles from you on many other boards that would put any of my med professors to shame, if your the same pheedno. So i will def. not question it. Thanks

Thank you. I should have posted with a bit more specificity above. I thought the explaination of the two pathways would have clarified.
    Sorry about that, Atomini
