hey guys,
i just wanted to make a thread for all of us to remind us to be responsible when we choose to drink.if you plan on drinking and going out with your friends, find a DD,dont drive after a few drinks.
i know,i know,your fine,you can handle it,you just have a buzz going your not drunk,right???? right........wrong!
everyone always thinks it can't and will never happen to them, but trust me,it does happen and it will happen if you drink and drive.
i dont mean to sound like a fvcking mother hen here, but seriously......because i chose to drink and drive after only having 4 mixed drinks in 4 hours time and drove home after being up at 5am and working til 5pm,then havin 4 drinks.i said i was fine and was just tired from working all day and drove home at 11:30pm.
i remember seeing the clock at 11:37pm June 15th '05 and it was the last time i was ever able to use my legs again.i fell asleep at the wheel and rolled into a cornfield at 65mph and rolled 5x and ended up in the passenger floorboards, even with my shoulder belt on.it took someone 2 1/2 hours to find me while i sat there helpless in my floorboard with a spinal cord injury,T4-T5 Fracture.
i was only 22 years old and i was just getting my life together.i had just gotten out of prison after a year and a half and 3months of house arrest, then 3 months later i had my accident.
So now im a Paraplegic for the rest of my life,no chance of ever walking again in my lifetime.
just thought i would share my story here cuz i know there are alot of guys here my age and a little younger(im 25 now)and i know what it's like to have someone say to you"no,you've been drinking now give me your keys" and you refuse because you can "handle it" .well i thought i could too,now look at where i am.it had to do with how tired i was from working and being up for 18hours and then having a few drinks, and then thinking i was fine to drive home.i think if i didn't have the drinks i would have made it home though.
so yeah, some of you may not even think twice about what ive said, but hopefully it saves a few of you from going through all the shit i have to go through now on a daily basis.
later!
Adam.
