i agree about upping the cardio but i recall an article i saw (can;t remember where) but they did a study of weight/resistance training vs. cardio for overall metaoblism boost. The resistance/weight training despite not burning more during the workout ended up burning more calories overall then cardio alone (over a 24hr period) due to the amount it upped your metabolism. Had something to do with the actual breakdown of muscle and how your body has to use energy to rebuild the muscle.
i've read something similar, i believe it said 6-8 reps was an optimal range for building muscle via hypertrophy and shocking nervous system, which both enhanced metabolic function and thus together created a synergetic effect
