Where are some cheap places to get ammo? I have always gotten it from the gun shop and its rather expensive. I heard DICKs has like bulk ammo in a huge bucket thats very cheap, and has occasional duds. Im looking for .40, 12ga., and 5.56mm....

Drive out to a small town and go to a country supply store. You can get ammo for pennies on the dollar compared to chain stores. I get rounds at a mom and pop store about 15 minutes from my place in a town of like 500 people. It may be different were you live but thats what we do here. Especially shotgun rounds, if your lucky you may find someone that loads at home and you can buy off them. Its better quality, cleaner powder and a lot more kick.....LOL
You may have problems finding 5.56 rounds cheap doing that method since everyone usually uses a higher caliber round for deer, like a 300 win mag or a .306. Now if you you shot .227 you could get dirt cheap rounds. As far as .40 I have never found rounds that are much cheaper. Around here most shot a 9mm or a .45, If you home load .40 you can save about 50% that is after you purchase your loader of course.
Hope this helps.

is gunbroker.com any good for ammo?
remember it was in a thread a while ago.
I usually hit the gun shows for stuff like Hydrashoks, etc. I generally roll my own for punching holes in paper.

for my 30-06 i go to walmart
walmart

I drive about 30 miles out of my hometown to a little place called "Doc's Gun Barn" and buy a case of 1000 good quality 5.56 rounds for around $200. Good for punching paper. Just be sure to thoroughly clean your weapon immediately afterwards. Even if the ammo is supposed to be non-corrosive, don't take a chance on the performance and reliability of your weapon. For actual hunting, I prefer to use custom loads.
BTW, last year I sold my S&W M&PT and bought a 10.5" Noveske - she was about $1000 more expensive, but worth every penny. I'm planning on buying a Noveske 18" SPC upper to get a bit more accuracy at range, but the 10.5" sure is fun to hunt jackrabbits with!!![]()
