lol that happened to me before. got slammed on the drivers side by a jeep grand cherokee in my camaro, girl just kept on driving. Lucky for me her license plate got stuck in my door jamb and they found her about a hour later. She said she was late for work lol. I got out of the car and started flipping out cuz the car took off, but sure enough the license plate was stuck in the door.

We have lap belts, but we dont use them. That looked like a wild ride. The other driver look like he left the scene..... Hit and run. LOL

all units responding code 3 (which is lights and sirens) is to come to a complete stop at an intersection and wait for traffic to stop. that guy clearly ran the light and hit the other responding unit. usually you should have pre-emption with the opticom to provide the unit a green light at an intersection. in this case the apparatus struck, had pre-emption b/c he had the green light.

I see. In the UK its pretty clearer than that.
At a red light, you have to treat it like a give way.
Give way being you dont have to come to a full stop to move through the junction if there is on coming traffic.
Normally people see you, and yield.

On approaching a stop light (red) or a stop line (solid thick white line) you must slow down to a speed that should an on coming vehicle not yield, you can still stop and not cause an accident. Saying this the rule is pretty gray and what is slow for one driver is not slow for another. It is mostly driver discretion but at the end of the day if an accident is caused by your actions its you taking the fall.

Had the above accident been in the UK the only thing he may have been prosecuted for really is dangerous driving (not going slow through a red, but he didnt hit anyone it was the oncoming vehicle that hit him. Catch 22 with two fire appliances really, but either way he is still at fault as he caused an accident because the oncoming driver had no time to yield. It is careless driving at the end of the day and in this country he would probably end up with a final written warning at worst. Unless he was prosecuted by the court and tried as a criminal then chances of him losing his job would be very very slim.

Saying all this, im sat on the fence as i dont drive, i have seen to many accidents in appliances and had too many friends develop RSI from report writing so until i get payed for driving my ethos is, let some other mug do it.

Yeah thats what its called over here.
Yeah the policy is pretty much wide open (more to people hitting us and taking us to the cleaners). its basically governed by the highway code with a few loop holes in it. End of the day if you have a crash, you are driving, you are responsible regardless if you are on a callout or not.

No, a firefighter, Just refuse to drive. They have tried to force it on us but unless they line our pockets in the mean time you will always get people like myself telling them where to stick it.
If i was asked a number of years ago i would have done it, but not now.

In the UK 24 hour fulltime stations were up until not long ago all running a
8 day rolling rota of:
2 days (0900-1800hrs)
2 nights (1800-0900hrs)
4 off

A few counties in the UK have altered their system to suit what management want like running 4 12 hour shifts so they can get rid of beds etc. At the mo im having it nice sweet quiet and EASY.... i think i have earned the rest though lol.
