Graphics card + Heatsink + Fan

- Stock GPU fan conked out
- Bought a new GPU cooler today (Heatsink) + Fan separately (Correct size)
- Heatsink uses wire clips to hold the fan down but I'm not sure how to fit it

Tried reading instructions but it doesnt seem to fit 'firmly'
Is there anything else I could use to hold a fan to a heatsink?

If worst comes to worst I'm thinking
- Double sided heat resistant tape
- Heat resistant glue

So I need ideas .. haha Thanks guys!

Umm, thats a cpu heatsink/fan assy in that link there.

Hmm, havn't had to replace mine as of yet so can't help you there. Screw it in to the heatsink?

There are no screw points available though, heatsink screws onto the GPU but theres no spacings for screws for a fan - hence the clips.

Be creatine, get a drill press make some holes then tap it out. Presto!

DO NOT GLUE THIS ONE. There are times where your going to have to remove the fan (dust build up and such). What kind of graphics card do you have ? (seems like an odd GPU setup). The pics i showed are for CPU's mainly not GPU's.

Thanks mate, will give it another go. Its the 4870HD but the new heatsink covers almost the entire card, the fan is meant to sit in the middle of it.

You should be able to get a new one under warrantee.

Again the heatsink/fans i showed you are for CPU's. They are made to cool just the cpu (single chip). On a video card you need to cool the entire card (not just the GPU).

Also like iron said, chances are you should still be in warranty.

Figured I'd be better off buying an aftermarket cooler rather than waiting to have it repaired if they didnt replace it straight away

Well your right in that your going to need one in the meantime. You dont want to burn that card out. Just curious do you have the room in your case for that HS ? BTW what HS did you buy ? (link). Those HS are good and are mainly used for overclocking which i do to my PC's.

In this case the clips should mount onto the HS just like they would the CPU's fan. Find the correct holds, insert , then put the metal over the lower edge of the fan, done.

Maybe this will help, mount in the correct holes where the green is which allows the top of the clip to be pulled over the lower edge of the fan (in blue)

And yeah it should fit, I have the Antec 900 and nothing directly under the GPU so I'm sure it'll be fine I just wont be able to fit much there in the future, maybe a TV tuner if I'm lucky. Thats the HS I purchased, the one I linked above That and an Antec fan
