You are not paying for the cost of the raw materials in the drug that you are buying. You are paying for the 8 years of research and 1 billion dollars in costs for clinical trials that it cost to bring that drug to market. A patent on pharmaceuticals only lasts 12 years, the typical time to bring it from start to finish meaning an FDA approval is around 8-9 years, meaning the company has very little time to recoup their money and turn a profit before generic manufacturers can start ripping off all their hard work. Not their fault, but easy for people who don't know any better to point the finger.
