Any auto techs here? have a Question, HELP ASAP

    Ok, i just bought a 02 Chevy Van 3500 5.7L box truck
    It has 64k miles,
It did have a small leak in radiator and in steering pump hose, i just changed out the whole rad. and line to steering pump with no leaks, but i figured id do a spark plug change since i had the front end open, i could only do 4 from the front end, and the other 4 thru the inside/doghouse of van i havnt done yet, i started the van after only 4 plugs were changed it made a slow grooging sound for a sec then ran normal, but the check engine light is on now, what do you think this could be? cause i didnt change the other four yet?
    thanks

ive heard that with chevys after they get serviced and the check engine light is on you need to punch the gas pedel 5 times to get it to go off... idk if it has to be on or off to do it

chk your O2 sensors, they are always faulty.you can p/u a fault code reader pretty cheap at almost all part stores.most of them will also clear out the codes and the light should go off.
sometimes you can disconnect the battery overnite and the codes will clear and the light will go as well.

    good luck,jumper617

Don't buy a code reader to use once. parts stores will read them for free. The o2 sensor is a very good possability. Also did you gap the plugs before you installed them? If you wanna clear the code yourself disconnect the negative battery cable for about 30 min and then start it back up if it ends up coming back on you have a faulty sensor.

Sometimes mismatched plugs can do some real funky stuff. If your computer is registering a difference in resistance between cylanders, that would explain the check engine light. Finish the tune up, reset your code, If the light comes back on take it to the parts store and have them read the code for you there. You should be able to identify the problem by that point.

I think before you look any further into the issue you should replace all the plugs.

Shouldn't even need plugs until 100k.I would guess you didn't plug or put something back correctly.Did you take the airfilter breather apart or unplug any sensors?Either way if its running fine shouldn't be a big thing,in fact the light may go out in a couple days.

    update,
i did the other 4 plugs and 2 wires just like feel apart trying to get them off, so i just went and bought aall new wires, that might be the problem, and i gapped them at .60 which thats what 2 places said thats what it should be, but the ones i pulled out were between .30 & .40 so ill go change the wires and see whats up, and put another update

Who cares what the other plugs were gapped at. Go by what the service manual says, not the 16 year old at pep-boys.

Glad you got it fixed. Another tip for you , there is no such thing as a pre-gapped spark plug. It might say it on the box but make sure to check every plugs gap with your gauge.
