Question about # of sets, and exercises per body part

    I made it simple:

What do you guys think the optimal # of sets and exercises performed per muscle group is ?

It depends on goals. Bodybuilding or powerlifting?

I say three working sets of 8-10 on most exercises is great if you do them as heavy as you can while keeping proper form.

There are certain exercises that differ for me tho. I do 4-5 sets of pull ups 8-10 reps and I do the same for leg press. Squats are three heavy working sets.

A lot of it depends on your conditioning level and what level of intensity you are able to generate in the gym.

I personally do 4 sets of 6 reps. It should be a weight you can do at least 4 of but not more than 6. Once I accomplish all 4 sets of 6 reps I add 5 lbs, and start over.

I dont really know the difference. That is how we worked out off season for football in college, and I made the largest gains during that period. It continues to provide results.

Powerlifters lift to be strong. Bodybuilders lift to look strong.

With bodybuilding it doesn't matter so much about how much weight is on the bar but more about how that weight worked the muscle. It's about form, control, and putting focus directly on the intended muscle.

I know alot of people say 8-10 but look 10-12 is optimal just make sure your hitting that and or more.
