after I hit the sack, I leave my slin pin on my nightstand and in the middle of the night I shoot my usual 4IU. During this time it is not in the refigerator, so is it okay to do this? how long can gh be in the open without in the refigerator?

It's probably ok. Get a small cooler with a small ice pack in it.

^^^ exactly what I was going to say. Get a little cooler. That is what I did. Pre-filled and put in a cooler. I think one member here keeps it right under his AC at night. (Some people think bacteria could be an issue doing the pre-filled way)

Cooler's the best but I don't use it. It's just a few hours between going to bed and injecting. It will be fine.
