Being accused of downloading a movie and sued. Anyone know someone who went through this and what did they do / outcome?

Can you scan/take a picture of the document.

My only experience is a buddy of mine used to sell ripped movies/music on ebay. He received a threat of law suit letter in the mail from one of the firms that owned the rights to a movie. He ignored it, and never heard anything since.

Lol. I remember a thread where OP was giving advise to a guy with a drinking problem... halfway down his post he admits to being drunk and drinking another 6 pack. Classic!

stop torrenting now that you are on the list, look into newsgroups instead, they are encrypted so you will never get caught again, also you will find WAY more stuff easier than torrenting

I learned that at 16 years old.

They are getting smarter and smarter at catching people. The problem we (users) have is our own ISP (internet service providers) are now working with agencies to help combat pirating. All they need to do is get your IP (super easy) call your ISP and now they have all your information. If you ask me pirating isn't worth it anymore. I use Spotify for music which cost me like 10-12 bucks a month for unlimited downloads of music. If i want a movie i have 100 redbox's around me and the movie cost me $1.30 to rent it for the full day.

Unless you're "served" papers, it's probably a scam or somebody fishing for a confession. Did they have any identifiable information like what you downloaded, etc?

    newsgroups with an ssl connection,

encrypted traffic thats downloaded in binary so your isp sees the amount of data transferred but has no idea what it is. Has everything I've ever tried to find.....no matter what it is or how old, it also downloads at a straight connection directly to the server and maxes out your bandwidth, download a blue ray movie in 30 minutes.

add the program sick beard to the mix and now I have my own tivo that automatically downloads shows right when they are posted to the internet usually before the show has even aired on cable.

Very magical thing the interwebs is...

Most people have no idea what a newsgroup is. I found it especially good for porn. Has anything, everything you could imagine and a lot of stuff you woudnt want to imagine. LOL

I gave up pirating movies many years ago also. Not worth it anymore when you can buy DVD for under $5 and if I really want a new release I ask a co worker who is still young, dumb and thinks he is untouchable. LOL

BTW Cherry, is there anything in your life that is not a immediate drama? Do you ever have a NORMAL no drama day?
