it is a terrible situation, but why has no one pointed out that the dude is a loser. and sexy4 if your friend is so great she should of never starting dating this guy to begin with. You said many reg flags and if your friend is an cool and togther as you say, she would not want to get into a relationship where she has to fix the man. Sounds like she want to date someone she can fix. or needs fixing. I do not mean disrespect at all to you or your friend. how the loser ended it was horrible. I am just speaking plainly that your friend should have dated better from the start.

and I total agree about woman cheating more, they just do not get caught.

We were close to this situation and I can honestly say the guy was a douche and probably always has been one. He has done some shady stuff in the past and been caught (not cheating) and she would be done but they would figure out a way to fix things. Honestly I think he got what he wanted from her as far as support financial help and when the ends were met he choose the most cowardly way to bail on her.
