Back tattoos...good or bad idea?

Yeah, never sacrifice quality for price. I learned that the hard way. I had a friend start my last piece at a discount instead of going to my usual guy. I'm not happy with it, so now I'm waiting for some cash to go in to get it redone. Waste of time/money. And I think its always a good idea to get something that you can add on to because chances are... you might want more.

I get mine done here in Thailand. My guy does em for 30 an hour. Doesn't use the best ink. Its a look I like though. Worn in/Jailhouse/not perfect. Again, tats are a form of self expression. Get whatever it is that you want, but take the time to make sure it is what you want.

Ya, Carson is probably my favorite style wise alone side Guy Aitchison and Nick Baxter. Mike Cole and Roman Abrego for bio-mechanic.

Carson charges $150/hr but works super fast and will drill on you for 6-8hr sessions if you can hang. He is very light handed though so I can practically fall asleep in the chair. Definitely worth the trip if you decide to go with him.

Yah buddy! Coming out super sick! Carson is awesome, always love the orange he uses. I remember some years back he did a side piece that has a huge orange gear/cogs in it. So amazing.

He is a very talented man, that's for sure. His depth and texture is amazing. Same with Mike Cole, can't say enough for the two of them.

If I remember right, it was right at 35 hrs in total. 5 sessions at ~7hrs each session. It's been a good 5 yrs now and it's still as bright as day 1.

The era of judging someone's credentials based on tattoo placement are long gone...
Also, comments on what a tat looks like on a 70 year old guy. Advancements in inks, and techniques, will allow today's tattoos to look much better, as they age.
As for back tats, go big, or go home! Nothing worse than small wings, on a back. I've seen a few, and they look ridiculous! Never go low budget!!
Half of my back is inked, and man o man, there's some tender spots there for sure, but I loved every second of it!

I've been wearing ink for more than 17 years. tribal forearm, dragon shoulder beastly heart on chest and a dragon on my back. they're in beautiful shape and I'm always proud of my designs. It is true however, that you need a good artist with experience and a creative eye. Personally, I like to design my own and maybe take some suggestions from the artist. Trusm me there is no feeling like having your own design inked. Even if you're not good at drawing, I guarantee you that if you spend an hour a day making light sketches of your ideas and then find a combination that you really like and spend a few weeks perfecting it; you will ALWAYS love it.

I have actually been contemplating wings as well. -Imagine this- starting at the lower to upper traps expanding lower to the lats and folding at the delts and extending tips to the tricepts.

I def. need to expand my lats more first and it isn't going to look right on a skinny guy. just my $.02

About being 70. You guys are right. Do you honestly think that your tattoos are going to be of any meaning when you will "hopefully" be old and wise?

I think you are mistaken if you believe the majority of people do not judge by appearance or consider tats as art or the norm. It's much more widely accepted vs 20+ years ago but it's far from being main steam or not being judged anymore. That's like saying a African American teen in a hoody is just viewed as being the same as a middle aged man in a suit. Not saying in reality they are any different, we are talking about how it's viewed. I think it will be a while, another generation or two before it even gets close to 50/50.

As for the 70 year old guy, I dont disagree and that's part of my point. People dont tend to think about the future much past 6 months let alone 10, 20, 30+ years but we should. Most people even today with the advanced technology of inks people are still using old school practices and 80% of tats out there look like crap due to trying to save a buck and no talent artist...

Bottom line it's everyones personal choice but they need to understand every choice effects your future so dont go into it blindly.

I would definitely take stock advice from someone with a full sleeve if they have a good track record in the stock market! And of course I would let a woman with a lower back tattoo watch my kids? Haha. Why in your mind would a lower back tattoo make a woman in capable of watching kids, or how would that sway her morals. Haha.

As tattoos get more popular in my opinion it is a double edged sword. The "cool" part of tattoos are that narrow minded people seem to not look past them. They are tabu and not for everyone. Initially that is what enticed me about them. Then on the other side of the coin is people that people should accept them. It's a very unique struggle.

My personal situation....Im covered in tattoos. Arms, legs, back, hands, neck etc. I own two successful businesses, and in the process of starting a third in the next month. I own real estate, cars, every toy I want. I have excellent morals, we are Christian. I don't drink, I don't smoke. I don't lie, cheat, steal or mislead people. I have two very respectful kids. Etc. you can bet that if I decided to play the stock market I would excel at it in due time. I am not saying this to brag or act cocky, just simply stating tattoos do not automatically make someone "loose moraled" or untrustworthy.

You might very be the smartest man to ever advise people in the stock market. But if you're all tatted up, a many potential clients won't even pay any attention to your abilities, they're going to judge you as incompetent and untrustworthy JUST because of your ink. More importantly, employers in professional settings will be more inclined to pass you up for this same reason.

That would be me! My ink is always covered up in clinic. We have a company wide policy that ink must not be visible during clinic hours. It is unfortunate but people often DO "judge a book by its cover".

Ink is an individual thing, its a personal thing for me and everything on my body means something to me in a big way, nothing is there because I like a design it MEANS something to me personally. I don't like certain types of tattoo's but that's my personal choice, my body is already individual by the muscles I have built and the tattoos always enhance my size not to take anything away from the muscles I have built.

Think very carefully about what you want and give it a few months before getting it tattooed, I know guys who cover their body in alsorts of stuff but for me its a personal journey of my life events. What ever floats your boat

I never thought being judged with tattoos was or is unfair. Half of the reason I started getting tattooed 15 years ago as a young punk rocker was I wanted to be different. Not another sheep following the flock doing what corporate America " says" we should do. Of course heavily tattooed people are going to be judged.

What you said was " would you let a girl with strap stamp watch your kids 8 hours a day". Not. 'Some people in America won't feel comfortable with a woman with a tramp stamp'. Big difference bud. BUT again if everyone had tattoos they wouldn't be nearly as cool. To each is own. All I was doing was simply stating a lower back tattoo doesn't automatically make someone anything. There is alot of judgemental people, they jjudge tattooed people all the time. We judge them back, after all it must suck to always be so worried about what everyone else is doing.

I'd say that my viewpoint is probably skewed, based on the fact that I live on the West Coast of Canada. Probably one of the most tolerant and accepting places in the world...
