This was my first. Got it in Thailand. 250 bucks, 8 hours. Its the Nazi 3rd reich eagle combined with an egyptian phoenix. Funny story. I'm not racist at all. Well, I'll admit, I can be a little pregidous at times. I think you're lying if you say you aren't. Anyway, I found this pheonix that I wanted off a tattoo website, but I didn't want a tattoo that a thousand other people have. So I search around for another bird that looked similiar, and I landed on the Nazi Eagle. I had my artist combine the two. I didn't think anyone would really notice it, but as soon as I showed people, they immediately "mistook" it for the Nazi bird lol. I usually show it to Jewish girls on first dates. It hasn't deterred any of them yet lol.

'Murica! I wanted a flag that noone else would have so I went with the skin tear route. Showing it's part of me as a person and its more than superficial and skin deep. 320$ and about 2hrs. Only tattoo to date

Only issue was outer ankle. Didn't heal as well and looks kinda blurry so we need to touch it up. Other than that, all healed good with no issues. Arm pit was not an issue at all, nor was the elbow. Honestly, I think it had a lot to do with the artist and how they lay the ink in you (fast, slow, heavy handed, light handed, etc).

You are absolutely 100% correct. I've come across artists that tend to blame heavy scabbing on the client (picking at it, sun exposure, etc). Don't get me wrong, people can mess with their tattoo and cause damage. But if you get tattooed and leave it alone, any heavy scabbing is due to overworked areas of skin.

I'm into a lot of heavy blackwork and all 3 artists I go to always want to use big mags. There thought, is to cover an area of black as fast as possible. Two big problems with big mags. When working in solid colors (especially black) the idea is to push as much ink into the smallest area. Using a small 4 round or flat will ensure this. You can't speed through a tattoo with that small of a needle set. Using to big of needle set gives the appearance of covering an entire area black, but when it heals, it will be streaky and require another pass. And the second (and biggest issue) with big mags, is the trauma. Pretty simple, imagine the damage 4 needles do puncturing your skin. And then think how much damage 19 needles do.

If it were more widely practiced (or if I lived by one of the few artists still practicing) I would finish the rest of my tattoos using the hand-poke (machine-free) method. The healing is amazingly better.

EDIT: Sorry, got going on a rant. As you can guess, I've been getting chewed up by a couple artists lately. And they are very reputable and published in my area (mid-west).

You should read Art of War. I think I remember there something about not picking fights that you won't win. Maybe you're just not educated on the subject. Do you have a degree in social psychology? Humans/animals naturally relate to their own kind/people. This extends past race/religion etc. It can come down to anyone outside your family or people from a different neighborhood also. Exactly. A lot of tattooists consider solid black a basic technique that should be one of the first things learned (which I agree). However, skin can easily be overworked when the artist is trying to achieve a smooth and deeply black tattoo.

I live in the states and there are only a handful of true blackwork artists around. It's more common overseas.

This one is obviously orange and blue for UF and the koi is swimming upstream to symbolize my struggle going back to school. Supposedly when the koi reaches the top of the stream, it's goal, it becomes a dragon. When I graduate from UF then I will get a big dragon on my back. Maybe I'll throw a little red and black in that one!!!!

I've got a question. I think color looks ill, but I like all black on me. Tattoo artists have told me that I have a type of skin that black ink looks more blueish on me. I actually like the blueish look, but I'm just wondering if this :type of skin" thing is real, or just a bunch of bs the artists are telling me bc they use shitty ink.

The koi has all types of symbolic meanings depending on the direction it's swimming, size, and colors. It's always a good idea to research a tattoo before you just go throwing some ink on your body. Different meanings for different things in different cultures.

I know. That's why my tattoo looks Polynesian but has none of their symbols like the shark teeth or turtle or the sun. They have specific meanings and don't appreciate someone wearing them not poly. Love the style but didn't want to get my ass kicked by a 400 lbs Somoan in a sirong

I heard Samoans have had a root in their diet that for hundreds of years that boosts your bodies natural testosterone production. Anyone know any thing about this?


Here's my Sacrifising quality for price. Shit looks haggard, although I can see where he's going with it. I just wanted snake skin going down the inside of my arm. My friend said he could do it cheap. I had 2 5 hour sessions with him. He said that its gonna take a bunch of touch up session to get it looking really good. Thing is... the more I looked at it, the more I'm scared that I'm not gonna like it if I let him finish it. Well, since its permanant, I'm definitely gonna have a professional redo this shit. Personally, I like black only on my self, but the guy I talked to here said it might look cool with some browns and golds. I like my tattoos to kind of faded. I'm thinking the brown might look a little weird. Anway... prime example of never sacrifising quality for price.

And then... I got these roses done in Thailand. About 90 bucks for 3/4 hours. I want to sleeve my arm in roses like that but leave out my elbow. Have a skin Iron cross on my elbow and then black rose from my forarm, up to a few inches above my elbow

I think the black work is next though for sure.

Skin matters! I have a buddy that is pale white and his ink looks like the day he got it and it was from some clown in a shop. I got mine from a chick that's well known in my area and it looked faded after a couple months. All my tattoos have done that no matter how good I care for them. I've accepted that ink just doesn't like my skin but I still do it anyway. My blacks tend to get a greenish tint to them as years pass.

Yeah, I wouldn't say mine have faded that much, it just seems that black ink comes out blueish on me when it heals. I do like it, I was just wondering if they were just feeding me lines or not.

With all the latest ink/colors they have now, can you cover up black ink with a color ink?

I've seen some sick Branding. Guys with tribal branded into their skin. That shit is too bad ass for me.
