Hey computer geeks... My mouse is lagging!

Just replaced an old dying monitor with a 40" LED TV. I'm using a TV because monitor prices are ridiculous. I'm connected via HDMI, refresh is set at 60 hz, 1080 reso. But the mouse is lagging. I move it across the screen and it starts to stutter and needs a second to catch up.

Now, I know some will tell me that it's because the TV is not a monitor, and not made for web browsing (I don't play games). But it works fine on my 40" Google LCD/TV, and my old Vizeo 42" LCD.

Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?

Try enabling 'Mouse Pointer Shadow' in the mouse settings. I've seen that correct laggy mouse issues before.

You may want to bring up Task Manager to see if any programs are utilizing the CPU extensively during the times the mouse is lagging.

CPU is no issue. Mouse shadow would in fact increase CPU usage, although negligible.

Just throwing some more things out there, but you could try turning off Mouse Acceleration if it's on.

Also, maybe turn off or change Vsync settings.

Well that didn't work. But I turned OFF pointer precision. That seems to help, but man........ it sucks because when you stop at a point it's not exactly where it needs to be.

    UGH!

Fudge. I think I'll try and go back to VGA instead of HDMI. Might be an input lag on this TV. Really didn't want to run audio cables. Oh well.

Vsync should be under your video card settings (catalyst control for ATI cards).

Some TVs have an option in their settings for 'gaming mode' or the like which will decrease input lag.

Also, I came across this, which I'll copy and paste here:

[BOLD]Most TVs take time to process the signal to make it look better, because they assume that people aren't going to be interacting with what's on the screen (and they won't, for watching TV or a movie). This processing takes time, in addition to the time it takes to actually display an image, meaning that there's a non-negligible time between when it gets a signal and when it displays it. People call this input lag, probably because there's some latency between when you input something and when you can see the effect of it.

Aside from turning on game mode (if available), which generally gets rid of a little bit of this delay, there's nothing you can do except use a different display. Some TVs have lower input lag than others. Most non-professional monitors are like under 20ms average or so. Most TVs are like 30-100ms.

You can try turning off all kinds of image processing options and see if that helps, but it probably won't. Turn off 120 Hz mode if you can, since generally 120 Hz TVs will buffer an extra frame or two for 120 Hz to do the interpolation (with 60 Hz input and 120 Hz output, for every image from the source, more or less the TV will kind of average the previous and current one to come up with an in-between image to make things look smoother).[/BOLD]

Anytime brother. That was the last thing I was going to say was switch to VGA or DVI input just to see if HDMI is the cause. Good luck.

    Batteries?

Tried wired mouse to see if is a computer issues or related directly to the wireless mouse. If the problem goes away it's one more clue to a solution.

    Thanks

Well, switching to VGA worked. Surprisingly, the colors look better as well.

    Thanks everyone.

Nothing better than having 2 monitors, well maybe having 3 but I don't want to upgrade my video card. I do have an older laptop hooked up to my 60 inch tv but its only for watching movies.
