Make sure you keep your nose/record clean also because a lot of companies require a security clearance now days and that alone can help you keep your position a lot longer because it's not always easy to get one. I know several people who lost their job because they could not get clearance due to some stupid little thing.
Thanks for the advice. The security clearance may be an issue though, I was charged with possession and trafficking of schedule 1 narcotics about 6 years ago (I was in the wrong car with the wrong people). The charges were dropped, but I'd be surprised if that didn't come back to haunt me.
