    Weights...how to get'em?

Anybody figured out how to get weights for home? Every shipment, at my Academy Sports, is gone within the hour of arrival. Most places don't do in store pick-up and to have them delivered would be cost prohibitive due to the shipping cost.
    Anybody dealt with this yet?

I bought TRX bands to get me through until the gyms open. I do not have the space for a home gym and I didn’t want to spend the money on something that I would only use for a month.

With the box stores it’s been damn near impossible. The private sellers are looking to rake people across the coals. It’s outrageous and frustrating.

Getting by on body weight, bands and some kettle bells. It’s not close to the same, but at least it’s something

Craigslist was good a couple of weeks ago.

Even some curb alerts on freecycle

You could go to Lowe's or Home Depot, buy some railroad ties, bags of concrete, and some straps then do strong man stuff with it. Probably would be less expensive than weights right now and when this is over, you could use them for other projects or resale.

Just thinking outside the box a bit...
    ^this is a great idea..

you can pick up bags of concrete at Home Depot and buy buckets and steel pipe etc. let the concrete set in the buckets with a steel pipe handle and you got a multi purpose weight.. can build some pretty bad ass home gym stuff.. you can even build a squat rack out of lumber

This is me too. I'm doing a push/pull/legs routine with bands, one kettle bell, and a basketball goal post.

All of my plates and dumbbells I got from craigslist for under $1 per pound. also I bought my dumbbells every 10 pounds to save money and space and for the 5 pound increment I use two 2 1/2 pound magnetic plate mates.

I'm having a hard time right now finding the right ez curl bar. I think people are buying them up from gyms being shutdown.

Steel made into knives is anywhere from $10-$2000/lbs.
Raw material costs means almost nothing to end product.

Yeah, but sometimes at some yards you can buy steel off the pile when you see something that you need.

Also check if you have a self serve town dump. I helped a friend drop off a load of yard clippings in my pickup truck and I found and picked up an oxygen tank, a CO2/Argon tank, both with good dates, and some steel weights I am going to get around to turning into indexers for my lathe someday.

I got an 8 ft x 4 ft sheet of steel for my skating ramp for about $30. I will be able to make about 4 ramps out of it.

I've found quite a few pieces on Facebook marketplace you literally have to constantly look but I have still got some decent deals. Just picked up a another pair of 45lb plates a few hours ago the guy was selling 650 lbs of plates, a bar, and some rubber mats I offered 180 for a pair of plates and dot them by no means a deal which is by no means a deal just the going rate around here. I saw a pair of 25 and 30 lb dumbbells the other day which sold for 50 before I could reply to the ad.

If you catch a good deal right now, you’ll have found a sucker who doesn’t know what’s going on.
I’m selling mine at cost (which is the same 2/lbs. you paid) to people that I know want to use them and aren’t scalping dicks. Shockingly enough, I haven’t had many move yet, but I’m also not willing to deal with shipping fuckery.

I've got a set of plates I ordered when this whole thing started paid around $1/lb plus shipping which was nearly half the price of the weights they were backed up 7-14 days...I still haven't got them probably just going to cancel them. If anyone is looking for dumbbells theirs a company called TDS fitness that has them in stock for around $1/lb and shipping isn't bad on most of them.

They can “sell” them for $0.05/lbs. Doesn’t matter if you never get them.
That’s what’s got people so fucked up right now. Rogue has spent years lowering the bar on pricing, so their steel 45s are roughly $1.16/lbs, so that’s what everyone seems to expect now. Mine were more because they’re urethane coated steel and typically retail new for around 3.75/lbs. also because they’re sold to facilities more than private users.
Buying the lot also had the plates to me in less than a week, versus hoping and praying for months.

Once I found out they were back ordered I drove over an hour to a dicks sporting goods to pick up a 300lb Olympic weight set plus another pair of 45s paid 350 and sold the bar it came with for $100 within minutes of listing it. Now people are selling the same 300lb setd for $6-700.

I’m honestly not shocked. Granted, I’m almost willing to bet that the bar is trash anyway, though the plates will serve their purpose fine. Not a bad turnover for you.
That’s one area I refused to compromise in, and ended up going with a Sorinex IWF spec bar. Buying a cheap barbell is like buying cheap tires for your car. Being a cheapskate with your only point of contact is asinine.

Fucking gyms are shut down again in my area of california. I'm so tired of this bs scamdemic. Everyone wants 2 dollars or more per lb for weights and I dont want to buy a bunch of shit I'll never use again once the gym opens. For now doing body weight exercises and riding my bmx every morning for some cardio. I've been looking at buying some resistance bands in the mean time I just dont know which ones are worth a damn.

Ouch I just looked on Walmart hoping to find a link for ya but they wanted 150 for 66 pounds of water filled weights .
Maybe look up DIY cement weights and get a few water jugs and some rope. If you have high bp avoid isometric exercises

Keep a lookout for liquidation sales. Gyms are going out of business and equipment has to be sold.

Comb google, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace etc and you'll find stuff.

In the meantime, be creative. Load rucksacks with ammocans filled to the brim. put ropes around the handles of those ammo cans and use them as dumbbells. Look at some old interviews Arnold did where he'd talk about training in Austria back when nobody there had gyms to go to.

All this stuff is overpriced right now. People know there is a demand. Its either pay up now or wait until all this passes and build a home gym.

Yeah, there is high demand. I'm right now holding off on building my home gym until after my tonsillectomy that I'm finally able to get done.
