Lemieux Vs. Gretzky

They are both amazingly talented players with extraordinary skills and determination. I have the utmost respect and admiration for each of them. Both men were also replete with integrity and respect for he game. My vote however goes to the Great One. Mario was the prototypical power forward. If you were to build the perfect hockey player, he would look, skate, stick handle and shoot like Mario. Gretsky was smallish, not the greatest skater and not very big or muscular. Still he was untouchable and unmatched. His sheer determination and will were integral in chanelling his abilities. He is the most dominant professional athlete ever. His records will forever be untouched and his leadership was a huge asset to any team he ever played on.

Let me preface this with, I'm a huge Mario fan and think that had he not had all the problems he had with his back, cancer etc he could have been the greatest. BUT, Gretz IS the greatest most dominant player ever! And I don't believe that there will be a next one! (Especially that F*K Wad Eric Lindros) And if it is, I just hope I get to see him! Gretzky, was unstoppable and if you need a refresher goto espn.com (that's not a source post is it ) and look at his career stats and when your jaw drops you'll see why! Mario had some great numbers also, but he did have injury's and no matter how you look at it's part of the game/life! You can only go by what is seen and written in the records.

Gretz is the best in terms of numbers and records, which some may argue is all you need to look at when dteremining who is better but I think that lemieux was more skilled and that had he enjoyed a healthy carrer Super Mario would have dominated the record books, He is so f ucking good!

There is a kid now by the name of sidney crosby who is 16 playing in the Q and is leading the league in points, he has 95 points in 43 games. Gretzky said himself that if anybody ever breaks his records it will be this kid. just a cool thing i thought i woudl share....I like gretzky better though, but i think if mario wasnt injured as much as he was, he may have beaten the great ones records..

im not sure if he stands out so much because the league isnt very good, or it is just because he is that much better then everybody playing major junior?? i don;t think he would dominate as much as he does if he were playing in the O.H.L.. but he is still a sick player and will make millions im sure,haha that little S***....

When Mario Lemieux is healthy I doubt there has ever been a player half as skilled as he is. However IMO Gretz has proved himself to be the greatest hockey player ever with a unique combination of natural ability, detemination, and heart. Most importantly Gretz remained healthy much of his carreer which allowed him to go the distance.

yes he is my fav player of all time and i don't think anybody will ever touch his records. I think if mario had of played as many games as the great one he would have passed him though. Both are disgusting, and i loved watching them play

I think if you put Lemieux in Gretzky's shoes (ie with the Oilers, etc)...Lemieux would have superceded everything and anything WG did. Mario came too late in the crappy defense/flopping goalie era.
