You can not judge a countries "greatness" as you say by how violent it can be.

If we continue as we are, in 30yrs half the population will be on food stamps and living in old soviet style government block housing. We'll be as broke as most of Europe and when the rest of the world continues to hate us and if terrorist attack, we'll apologize to them for hurting their feelings.

Will it get to that point? As long as most Americans continue to be more passionate about Sunday NFL, absolutely.

    America's problems are rather simple.

A free society structure can only exist as long as the populace has some form of morality. Without morality the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. This is due to the ability of the rich to continually change laws and their interpretation through lobbying groups etc. This same greed and manipulation of government also allows for the exploitation of not only US labor (Manual labor workers as well as minimum wage workers are now at an all time low compared to the cost of living) but also the exploitation of foreign labor IE things like offshore assembly and manufacture etc. The same immorality leads to the manipulation of the dollar by things like uncontrolled borrowing and uncontrolled spending.

Another effect, the size and cost of government.

The US in simplest terms is like a small company of 10 people who cut grass, where it starts with 9 people working and one person doing paper work. As the company grows one worker marries the owners daughter and becomes the second person doing paper work. Now the couple has twins and both are put on as paper pushers. Now both kids hit there teens and date employees who become paper pushers. Now a company that was 90% work supporting 10% management is 40% and 60% management.....how many people does it take to determine the best way to cut grass? This same thing is what has happened with government.

Of course the problem with America for the rich and the rest is that exploiting America by exploiting the working class was not enough to satisfy the greed of corporate America. So due to the manipulation of the currency and the continued growth of our national debt as well as our continued attempt to manipulate other governments the game corporate America has been playing is soon about to come to an end.

I am American and it breaks my Fvn heart to type this shit, but I feel civil war is soon to be as American currency will soon collapse (OPEC has already tried to have the US dollar no longer accepted as a form of trade) and then the whole façade of economic prosperity will die along with what was once the greatest country in the world.

True. The government is bigger than the people. It is now people for the government not government for the people.

good analogy FFM, and what's scary is to most Americans don't see the possibility of civil war being around the corner, if not in my life time definitely in the next generation, unless of course we wake up and go back to what made this country great, morals, virtues, and small government. but this will never happen without some sort of civil war, unfortunate!

No doubt. Take away the food stamps the social programs and watch the country implode. Or keep giving to the poor from others pockets and watch the country implode. Personal responsibility. Let the people succeed or fail by them selves.

Bankrupt and at war. Either with ourselves, the world or a combination. Not to be pessimistic but the world IMO can not sustain the ever increasing population. America will not give up the life style it has become accustomed to.

Many other countries hold the same ideals. As the worlds resources continue to become limited, people and countries will be in a position of "survival of the fittest".

In 30 years the world will be close, or have passed peak oil. The strain will be exacerbated by China with its increasing middle class and population of 1.2 billion people, who want to live the standard of the rest of the world. In addition, many emerging 3rd world countries will want to be part of the modern world, further straining the worlds energy supplies and agricultural resources.

Additionally, Russia will be reasserting its place in the world as a world super power, and will be challenging the United States for influence in proxy nations, as evidenced by the recent diplomatic victory in Syria. China will also be asserting itself as a major superpower, and will be exerting regional influence in the Asia-Pacific area, with a possibly conflict over Taiwan, with the potential of escalating into a nuclear exchange with the United States.

Both of these things will challenge the United States position as a world super power, and we may see the United States take back seat on international affairs. The up side may be that we stop being the policemen of the world, and we may have no choice with ever growing domestic problems.

Our domestic problems will continue to be exacerbated, with 70 trillion in unfunded liabilities estimated by 2030. Our aging baby boomer population is going to be retiring at ever greater numbers, starting now, all the way through 2030. There is no debate that it will bankrupt Social Security and Medicare. Government will not be able to meet its obligations, and no one will get government benefits. Increased taxes will likely lead to stunted economic growth.

The surveillance industrial complex will undoubtedly grow, with the massive power grab by the intelligence complex in this country. This will likely swell the size of our prison population further, straining economic resources, and further restricting freedom in this country. Increased militarization of the police force will likely proceed further, and be implemented in the event of social unrest due to economic woes from either lack of employment, government benefits, infrastructure, or all of the aforementioned.

Consider this. Rome was the most powerful and glorious country in the world, and their state lasted for 800 years. The United States is only 237 years old. We believe that the United States is infallible, and in many ways as a global hegemony it can be argued that it can resist many of the woes of Rome. However, Rome was not brought down to an invading army or a revolution, Rome was brought down because it went BANKRUPT! No state can withstand going bankrupt, as evidenced by the Soviet Union. So, I fear what will happen if we do not correct our economic woes, it is the most serious threat that faces the United States, far more than any military threat, no country can threaten us militarily, but we are threatened by our own fiscal irresponsibility.
