i'll throw my two cents in...racism needs to end...hating an entire group of people when u havent met them is stupid...every race has there garbage...white have white trash, blacks have...spanish have....chinease have...each race has a group that u can use a negative word for...but its also what u see...i lived in a wealthy area but went to a alternative school...were there were scum of all races, being white from a wealthy neighborhood they thought i was a pussy so i had to fight, so it was easy to say there all like that...but i would also see succesful people of dif. races so u cant just group everyone becuase of a few bad experiences...

Saw on the news those people kramer insulted are wanting restitution... Gloria Allred is wanting them to go in front of a retired judge, as there is not one law that gives her a leg to stand on for verbal assault, so the judge can suggest monies that need paid. They cannot sue but they guys lawyered up on the cash cow and she did however throw the challenge out there...

On one other note, yesterday I was not happy with paul rodreguez(sp?) for calling for limitations on free speech... But now on the today show two of the guys that are seeking restitution said this morning freedom of speech is nice but it should have its limitations. Again this pisses me off more than the shallow minded insults. Dr King would have rolled over in his grave.

I've been wondering whether or not to weigh in on this one...

I have to question the notion of parents "teaching" their children to be racists. Think about what teaching means. Now, unless you were raised by parents who walked around wearing white robes and hoods preaching the evilness of non-white races, then chances are your parents weren't teaching you to be a racist. How many parents teach their children to say, "I hate you mommy/daddy!"? And yet, children still say this to their parents.

I'm not saying that children don't acquire racist attitudes/vocabulary/etc. from their parents, siblings, or peers, but rather that most parents don't teach their children racism. Setting a bad example, yes. Teaching, no.

Racial ignorance and intolerance can be lessened (overcome/eliminated...not in our lifetime) through education. To that end, I absolutely agree that parents should actively promote racial tolerance and understanding. I sincerely hope we're all doing our part!

See my post above about bulding a foundation of respect for one another. Liek you, I don't think that there is a HUGE amount of parents "teaching" their kids to hate one another.

But if I ever told my mom that "I hate you" or "shut up" or "he's a ____" I'd have my ass beaten so hard I wouldn't be able to talk for a week. I know racism is wrong, and there is a reason that I do.

Since we are talking about racism, my family doesn't like anyone that isn't white and they don't like gays but I make my own decisions date asian and hispanic girls and my body jewelry store and tanning salon caters to a gay clientel which would make them lose their minds but I just keep it to myself and don't try to change them (I doubt after a few hundreds years that they will change over night) ps, family is like cousins, uncles, etc.Racism might end if people were not forced to like each other but actually talked to each other.
