    There was this bodybuilding coach guy that came around to schools in my area.

    I asked him if i could train at his gym...he let me..and i competed the following year. After that i left and joined a gym with bigger dudes...

    One generally hears about approaching contests tru the grape vine.

    If you indicate to owner beforehand that you plan to compete...he'd normally alert you when he first hears about an upcoming contest.
