    Jeep Wrangler??

Does anyone own or have a relative/friend that owns a Jeep Wrangler??

I was actually thinking about trading in my car and getting one for a few years...

Even my gf is bugging me to as well which surprises me lol

I am just curious how they last engine wise and how the ride is on the highway? I drive like 30 miles one way every day to commute from Bergen County NJ to Westchester NY area for work...

I'm a total beach bum so I figured I'd enjoy it in the summer and I kind of miss having the 4wd after getting rid of my Explorer... BUT I don't want another SUV because I used to hate how everyone always wanted me to drive whenever we went out lol

I would not ever buy one as a daily driver. The ride is pretty bumpy and they do not handle well, because of the short wheel base. I was thinking of getting one for a summer car, but not a daily driver.

I have one and it's my daily driver and it's fine. I drive about 15 miles each way to work with a mix of city and highway. The two cons are it gets crappy gas milage 15-17mpg and the ride is kinda bumpy. That being said, it's one of the most fun cars to drive. I'm kinda used to a stiff suspension because my last car was a 300zx and it had tight setup. The straight 6 has plenty of power, you can leave some nice streach marks and it can chirp 2ond with no problem. In the summer with no top and no doors, you will wonder how you ever did with out.

The best thing about it is it's offroad capability. It's like a little tank, it's really hard to find something that it can't do.

Check out this site if you want to find out more about wrnaglers.

Oh, one more thing, not sure if this effects you but the towing capacity on the wrangler is on the low side of about 2,000 pounds. It's not that the wrangler can't handle it, but the short wheel base is not good for heavy loads.

I wonder how many of you people adjust your speedo cable after you put on those oversized wheels. I would never buy one, I would like to know that I'm surrounded by a better roll cage.

The stock roll cage is pretty safe, it will crumple a little if you roll but it serves it's purpose.

I own one right now. Its a yellow 2001 wrangler. I absolutely love it. Great in the snow, and when it gets warm, peel the top down. Chics love it. Its good to just drive around and get a tan. Ill never drive anything else.

It takes alot to damage a jeep drivetrain. If you keep it stock you will never run into worries. I've gotten my jeep airborn, done burnouts, 4 wheeled like there is no tomorrow and I have not had any problems. I bought mine a year ago, it was a 2002 sport with 33k miles on it and I paid about $18,000 with taxes setup and warentee. I got a 80k drivetrain warrentee included so i'm not worried. Go check out that site I posted, you would be amazed what people can do with a "stock" wrangler!

    I think i have a couple...

there great. the roll over problems where mainly with the older cjs. if you don't drive like an idiot, there great. the ride is a little bumpy, but it's a jeep, you can give up a little smooth ride for the ablity to drive over everything in the way. once you get it, be prepared to spend money on upgrades, it's addictive. i have seen plenty of jeeps it crashes where the jeeps are just perfect and they crush the other car. very well built. the engines last very long, they are known for lasting. I don't suggest the I4, but it is a very good engine. the I6 is just better, and has the right amount of power for the jeep. i have owned both, and love them both, but the I6 is much better on the highway.

I got a '95 w/a 4 banger. I got this on purpose due to the price. I got a 4 in superlift (bumps are horrible) and it is rhino lined. I am saving up to put a ford 302, nv 4500 T.C, beefed up th 400 tranny, ford 9in rear end, spring over my lift and reverse the shackles. Going to line-x the entire outside. Switch the front over to round headlights. Maybe cut and extend the rear to look like a scrambler. Throw on some 38in. SS TSL SX's. Only need $3500 more.

The old ones, yeah, I don't think the new ones are too bad. All SUV's ride a little stiff, if you want a ride like a car, then why would you be looking at a Jeep?

I am on my second one, had a '91 and an '01, I won't drive anything else. I drive 28 miles, 45 min, over country roads every day to work & back, love the ride, feel on the road, & handling. Once again, the new ones are pretty descent.

It's getting close to time of year to take the rag top off again too! Getting damn anxious!

Dont forget the universal jeep wave. I had no idea about it till I baught one. Im like why are these people waving at me. Then I put 2+2 together and figured it out. Today was 74 here in Mass. Peeled the top down, grabbed this pig im bangin, and went cruisin.

    I had a 2000 soft top.

If you can afford it, get A/C with your jeep... it might be hot, humid, and raining cats and dogs.

are you looking for a new or used? if new, skip it all and go straight to the rubicon. they have dana 44 axles front and rear, air lockers, 33" tires....can't beat the price. you couldn't build that jeep for the price they get for it new. if used, just get a I6. the old Ax5 trans that came with the I4 had a sencro problem between 2nd and 3rd. but the newer ones past 93 don't have the same problem. the I6 comes with the ax15, great trans. both engines are beasts, change the oil and you will have it forever.

as far as the cage...that video is not of a stock cage it is a cheap bolt on cage that the idiot driver cracked up. did you see him put his foot out....hahaha what was he going to stop it.....cage and belts are to keep you in the jeep, if you stick things out, or don't have a seat belt what do you expect.

newer stock, 89 and up jeeps are just as safe as other cars on the road. tell me, any of you guys have a stock roll cage in your pickups....no. when lifted, they get top heavy, but not if you build them right. the higher you go up the wider you must go. wider axles, tires, wheels, more wheel Back spacing, what ever it is, a inch wider will do a lot to make the jeep more stable when lifted.

do yourself a favor, research those tires a little more...they suck the big one..they look real cool, but wear out in months, and dry rot and crack at the wheel all the time. just my .02

also the nv4500 is a trans...so i don't think it will do to good as a t-case. haha, just messing, i guess it was a misstake.

no adjustment needed, just a simple gear replacement on the t-case it takes 2 mins.

what roll cage are you protected by now that is better then the stock jeep cage?

you are going to throw a chevy trans behind a ford engine? why not get an a-4 or whatever tranny it is ford makes.

Jeeps are very reliable. The four cyl motors don't get very good mileage, so I'd definately go for the inline six.

I'd definately take one out for a test drive. I love the Unlimited! I may have to trade in my car for one.

The Grand Cherokees have a roll bell warning, to let you know if you are about to tip the suv. I freaked the salesman out when I took that off-road.

We were driving along on a street, and I asked him how good the 4wheel drive was. He told me that it was the best ever. So I asked if I could test it out. He said sure. We stop, and I put it into 4 low, and start driving down the road. He asks "how's it feel?" I said "I don't know yet, but we'll find out" and I drive straght off the road into the ditch at 30 kms. He's freaking out. I'm having a blast. We bring the jeep back to the dealership all covered in mud. I felt bad for the guy, since I freaked him out so bad, and he didn't even get the sale. But if I do buy a Unlimited TJ, I'll buy it from him.

I don't even notice the noise. But I have to admit, when we take the Jeep on 5 - 6 hour trips on the 4 lane at 70, even though the noise doesn't bother me, I am horse from talking loudly over it after the whole trip.

If I had a hard top, I would still want the soft, so I could swap it out for the summer. That is cool for sure, that they are interchangeable.

    I get 18 - 22 with my '01 4.0, & I got the same with my '91 4.0.
