I find this article very interesting:
This is another of the wunderkind hormones that has captured the public imagination. Even people who are not into anti-aging, are popping it for sleeping and jet lag. It is one of the most potent antioxidants yet discovered, an immune booster, ---------, heart helper, ------------, and mood elevator. Greg Fahy, Ph.D., of the Naval Medical Research Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, speculates that growth hormone may hold the key to why melatonin supplements have such a widespread anti-aging effect. "This remains theory," he says, "but the fall in melatonin in the brain triggers puberty. As you go through puberty, your growth hormone levels start to fall. So it stands to reason that these things are connected. It may be that the reason that melatonin is good is that by putting it back you can stimulate GH release." In fact, so close is the relationship between the two hormones that a prominent researcher in the field, Russell Reiter, Ph.D., advises taking melatonin as a cheap and easy way to increase growth hormone. We disagree. While melatonin in low doses is an important part of multihormonal replacement, it can no more replace growth hormone than can DHEA. Only growth hormone replacement either by injection or with the Growth Hormone Enhancement Program can bring the IGF-1 back to the youthful levels required to reverse the ravages of the age on the mind and body."
