Whey criticized

While doing research I stumbled across an exerpt by Dr. Ellie Whitney and Dr. Sharon Rolfes. They say, and i quote.

" Because the body builds muscle protein from amino acids, many athletes take protein powders with the false hope of stimulating muscle growth. Protein powders can supply amino acids to the body, but nature's protein sources-lean meat, milk, and legumes-supply all these amino acids and more.
Whey protein appears to be particularly popular among athletes hoping to achieve greater muscle gains. A waste product of cheese manufacturing, whey protein is a common ingredient in many low-cost protein powders. Athletes and active people who want bigger muscles should know that whey protein does not increase muscle mass. To build bigger muscles, they need to eat food with adequate energy and protein to support the weight-training work that does increase muscle mass. Those who still think they need more whey should pour a glass of milk; one cup provides 1.5 grams of whey.
Purified protein preperations contain none of the other nutrients needed to support the building of muscle, and the protein they supply is not needed by athletes who eat food. It is excess protein, and the body dismantles it and uses it for energy or stores it as body fat. The deamination of excess amino acids places an extra burden on the kidneys to excrete unused nitrogen"

In a nut shell, whey is useless as a muscle building agent, and will only serve as energy, or be stored as fat......comments?

I think the comment about storing the excess as fat just shows what a load of BS this article is. If the body did, with the amount of whey I take in, I should weigh 400lbs !!!!

Lol, I just wondered where they got this information.....they are both well known nutritionists, but they use no references in such an opinionated article. They also go on to say in another exerpt that high protein intakes do not lead to any more muscle intake than taking in say 20-30g a day...assuming the rest was made up in carbohydrates.

There´s a lot of shitty advise lurking around for already obese people, written by obese scintist, who think they´re into sports becaus having a BMI<30.^^

Just cut all the crap and see what really helps you out of all these wonderfully engeneered proteins and supplement.

The´re studies that prove they work!

Nothing, I mnean really nothing you´re reading in magazines and the papers works for any pro athlete and if he´d follow those plans it will throw him back in time before he ever did and knew sports and even far beyond.:-))

My (perhaps unfounded) opinion is that whey protein is not the way to go. Remember years ago people died from liquid amino acids because they hit the bloodstream too fast and caused a toxic condition? If you eat a steak the amino's are released into the bloodstream slowly over a period of time and I think will build muscle much more efficiently than low MW peptides. Ok so now you lifted. You think that you must now bombard your muscles with amino's as quickly as possible? Ten bricklayers can only build a building so fast and must have a constant supply of bricks over a period of time. Well, I admit I have no facts on this. I guess I am a bit sarcastic about whey protein because I feel like crap after I use it. So...whatever happened to Hoffman's protein powder? It worked great for me and made me feel pumped with energy but that was many years ago.
