Whey protein is garbage!
Check this article out.
Looks like taking nothing at all would make a bodybuilder more anabolic than taking whey protein...

"Protein supplement ads and articles frequently cite Biological Value (BV) numbers (e.g., 104 and sometimes even higher) for whey as evidence for its superiority; however, these BV values were derived from studies on hair- and feather-covered animals that require more of the sulfur-containing amino acids that whey is rich in. These results do NOT apply to humans."

sure whey doesnt have a bv as high as a chicken sandwich but its better than not taking anything. they do it on animals cause its cheaper every thing is tested on animals der der der... geraldo can stuff it...that article is probably written by the same people that got everyhting in bodybuilding banned ephedra, prohormones designer steroids etc...i hate you.

No it does not. The increased urea production see i direct result of the whey being absorbed too quickly and thus being oxidized by the liver. Slow down the consumption of the whey and the problem is solved.
Are you saying whey is catabolic?

i think it does have a valid point... perhaps constantly absorbing casein protein throughout the day is better than quickly absorbing whey protein a few times and then having hours go by before your next whey shake? that's why bsn's syntha-6 is so cool, it blends different proteins together.

It's speed of absorption causes a significantly lower bv, but it's not crap.
As stated earlier, this can be easily remedied by mixing with another protein source to slow absorption.

btw Rake, if you're really interested in studying both sides of this "argument" (frankly i don't think there is one, but i'll encourage you to go against the grain everynowandthen--it's how we all learn), then i would suggest picking up a copy of 'Nutrient Timing'...John Ivy is one of the leading pioneers in sports nutrition, and they've done just about every major study involving protein synthesis you can imagine...they are advocates of whey protein in PWO shakes, and there is a clear reason why, at least in terms of in vitro studies at the cellular level. to say it's "crap" isn't saying much on your end either...are there huge differences in terms of real world gains from ingesting whey instead of regular food or other powder supps? maybe not, but whey is pretty cheap nowadays, and there are benefits of taking it PWO, it's all about optimization nowadays, even if it only correlates with small increases in actualized gains...
just take time to read up on both sides of any argument, it will help you not to sound so frikin' retarted in the future...

I'M NOT EVEN GOING TO READ THAT CRAP AND WAIST MY TIME. THE ONLY SUPPS I TAKE ARE WHEY AND AAS. I'VE USED EVERY TYPE OF DIFFERENT SUPP ON THE MARKET, SPENT A LOT OF MONEY, AND OVER THE YEARS, IN MY EXPERIENCE, WHEY PROTEIN IS THE BEST BAR-NONE.
I'M 240 LBS, WITHOUT WHEY, I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO REACH MY PROTEIN INTAKE FOR THE DAY, AND I CAN EAT LIKE A HORSE.
WITHOUT WHEY, IN MY OPINION, MOST OF US CAN SAY WE WOULD NOT BE WHERE WE ARE TODAY.

I take whey postworkout like everyone else around here, but I wonder how much it actually benefits me. The above article that I posted really bashes the hell out of the supplementation of whey and made me more wary of wasting money on it. There were sections of the article that made me think that it was actually more catabolic than anabolic .
Anyways I'm so acustomed to supplementing with whey that I'll probably never attempt to go without it....

lately i received some info too that whey was useless , and now there is a true protein powder its Hemp protein anyone heard of it , sometimes i get fed up of all this , there is too much money involved how come before the whey boom like the 70 's 80's there was no whey but there were still body builders whey changed nothing exept our wallet as i think i have spent a small fortune on whey protein and i think if in these last 10 years i did not take whey i would have been the same as i am today

I don’t think that article holds much water when there’s a lot of people gaining muscle and strength by supplementing with a good whey isolate.
I personally notice a drop in strength and overall hardness in my muscles when I discontinue my whey.
Week after week I sell whey to people in my shop, once people have started using it all I hear Is how people can’t live without it….this is fact.

you read it wrong i wrote it about the people that come in your store are like my father see how i quoted it...calm down what u on cycle or something? i just meant people are stupid. Im totally for whey i think your taking it the wrong way. i drink it often to compensate for my long days at work in meetings and such. What does me working in the industry have to do with anything? what do u work at a gnc so you know everything? I work in the pharmaceutical industry and i read alot of scientific studies about all that pertains to supplements plus ive been involved in forums on it for years. i know you knew what the placebo effect i was just saying it for everyone else. dont give me an attitude cause i didnt give you one in the first place.
