Many great studies with respect to fish oil...If you aren't getting enough *****-3s in your daily nutrition from fish they are one of the most important supplements IMO.
When added to a diet, these fats- more specifically- the DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) & EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) components of ***** 3s have been shown to increase insulin sensitivity in muscle cells and decrease insulin sensitivity in fat cells. That is, nutrients will be more likely shuttled to muscle cells, rather than fat cells- i.e. improved carbohydrate storage, more efficient protein storage, increased metabolic rate, etc.
Make sure the brand you have has at least 300 combined AEP and ADH, although some will say at least 500.
As far as how much to take, it really depends on your overall diet. Most North Americans don't get enough fish in their daily food intake to begin with. Without knowing your diet it is difficult to give you a ball park figure for how much to take... I would say that you would want to shoot for 10-15 grams (10-15 caps) of fish oil per day...that's just my opinion, though.
I currently take in about 15 grams spread throughout the day.

If I remember right, fish oil thins your blood, thats why I dont take that much.
Its really good for your heart, i.e. bloode pressure, arteries.
Def. would not hurt taking it.
I also like taking them for my brain, and even more so because they act as a natural anti inflamatory. Fish oils (*****-3s) significantly diminish the production of various prostaglandins, naturally occurring hormone-like substances that accentuate inflammation. My body really doesnt seem hurt as much when Im taking these and recovery seems to be quicker. I think there are just a ton of reasons to make fish oils a staple. Im currently using a EPA& DHA extract supplement. I take 3 1000mg soft gels 3x a day.
I dont know about everyone else,but I refrigerate my vitamins and oils. Usually they arent just sitting around so long they go old or anything anyways, but it gets hot in the summer, just my preference.
I don't eat that much fish.. lots of chicken and a occasional salmon patty. I will also each a pouch of tuna a day (snack). The brand I have is from Walmart.. Spring Valley... and has 300mg combined of EPA and DHA.
I take 4 grms fish oil 2 grams flax oil a day...take them with other supps...I've heard that fat taken in at same time with supps helps absorpsion..plus.. good for cardiovalsiur (sic) porposes.... hey from everything I've read O megs 3 is great for the body...if anyone knows why that word and d e p are blocked pm me i would hate to add anything to my post that would get them edited.
Walnuts are a great source of O.mega 3s as well.
Cant do walnuts... I can do Almonds!!!

my eggs, butter, and cooking oil all have EFAs.
my knees ache if i back off this dose .i think it helps with depression too.
i dont eat that much fatty fish, mostly white.
EFA's are very good for your heart and brain.

Thanks Guys! I am starting out taking 2-caps 3x a day, since I have such naturally oily skin, I am hoping the fish oil will help control it and not make it worse. After about a week, I bump it up to 3-caps 3x day.
EFA's from Met-Rex is what I take.
