Trazedone...
It's actually an anti-depressant but they prescribe it a lot as a sleep aid. It's non narcotic, non habit forming. My ex gave up drinking, they prescribed her Trazedone to help get her to sleep, worked like a charm, I'd be blarring the TV right next to hear and she'd be out cold, I took em a few times, great sleep, woke up nice and refreshed, gave me crazy dreams though. Damn now that I think about it, I miss her for her Trazedones...have to call my doc. Just kidding.

Trazedone does work, but a more natural alternative is L-tryptophan. This is the stuff in turkey that can make you drowsy. If I take 1000 mg I sleep the entire night and get to sleep much easier.
Trazedone, BTW, can have some narcotic sides. I've used it before, and it definitely can have those side effects. I would never use a pharmaceutical sleep aid on a nightly basis. They can be habit forming whether they are claimed to be or not.

Makes sense, I read somewhere that the olny reason that chemical is in turkey is because of the hormones the turkeys recieve. Supposively all natural turkey won't make you sleepy, anyone else ever hear that?

I am still myself looking for a supplement that will keep me asleep all night and maybe cause a little drowiness to help.

tryptophan works good but is pretty expensive. melatonin is cheap and works pretty good imo

Let's add to this...
Good Sleep Hygiene (Most Important):
1.. Get up early in the morning so that you're on the correct circadian rhythm.
2. Avoid taking naps during the day past 1 PM.
3. Keep the lights off at night so that you're brain creates the necessary chemicals for sleep.
4. Avoid stressful activity several hours before sleep (stressful activity makes your body pump out cortisol which will keep you awake).
5. Eat for Sleep: Starchy foods help by prompting the production of serotonin.
6. Sleep on a comfortable bed.
7. Keep a notepad near your bed so that you can write down everything on your mind that is keeping you from being able to fall asleep.

3. Mucuna Pruiens Extract

I would avoid the prescription sleep meds, but I listed them just for completeness.
DO NOT TAKE THE PRESCRIPTION SLEEP-AIDS, AS THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER THINGS THAT YOU CAN DO THAT ARE MORE EFFECTIVE AND FAR MORE HEALTHFUL.Last edited by barondumonde; 02-20-2008 at 11:11 PM.
