    Another whey question...

I do cardio after I lift weights. Should I consume my whey shake right after I finish weights (right before cardio) or should I just do my 45 min cardio and they drink my shake?

Well I usually drink some BCAAs before I do cardio. If you don't use BCAAs whey would be good to take before cardio and maybe even another after cardio depending on how long it will be before you eat a meal. Its also a good idea to consume some carbs after a workout too. Also depending on how intense your cardio session you may get an upset stomach if you drink a big shake before you start.

Go right to cardio, no need to consume anything.

I always take it right after my weights, before my cardio.

No need to do that, just go straight to your cardio. Your body is in a near perfect environment to burn fat after your workout. Adding some aerobic activity is all that is needed. Eating before hand serves no purpose.

you cant have your shake before your cardio after weights unless its BCAA's because your gut blood flow is reduced by 70% and cannot break down the proteins. Only BCAA's by themselves can bypass the gut and be absorbed directly.

BCAAs have a very high affinity towards absorption but to simply say they are the only thing that can be absorbed during bouts of cardio is wrong. Whey protein is broken down extremely fast and when broken down into small peptides also are absorbed very effectively.

That was my train of thought as well but I am always open to new info if someone has it.

No, that "only" bcaa's have the ability to do this.

My biggest concern was the idea that you need to take in protein 30-60 min after your workout. If I go straight to cardio for 45 min then I am worried my muscles won't get the protein they need. Also it concerns me that without adequate protein right after the workout my cardio will burn up muscle. I suppose this is where a good pre-workout high in protein comes into play.

This has been brought up several times before. Your anabolic window is not going to slam shut within an hour after training. Hit the weights hard for 30-45 minutes, knock out your cardio, eat.
