When you lose water weight, how can you keep it off?

How much water is too much per day?
I weigh 255lbs and I am 6ft tall, 25yr old male
probably around 28% body fat
I am hoping to drink a little extra water each day to help reduce my body weight by getting excess water retention out
Unless you plan on staying dehydrated all the time, water weight loss is only temporary...as soon as you drink anything or consume excess sodium your body will gain the water back (perhaps not all of the water that you lost, but it will retain some and water is necessary for your body to function properly).
Exactly how much water you need to intake daily or how much is too much for you is not my area of expertise, but here are a couple of links for you...(by the way, the ongoing debate is whether 64 ounces per day {8 ounces x 8} or half of your body weight in ounces of water is best...but I'm not going to make that judgment call)

MIP I have a question. Is it wise to cut back on water prior to a contest? I know you should cut back on sodium, but how much water should you take? Thanks....
