    Know anything about niacin???

So i added some Niacin to my list of supplements i take. Mostly to prevent high cholesterol. But some of the other effects will be well welcomed also.

The problem is when i ordered it i didn't notice that i mistakenly ordered the sustained release kind. Booooo

I know from a little research the sustained release is-bad for your liver and doesn't flush as well.

I know that the niacin flush is a very good thing. So i want the flush, and i can't get it with the sustained release kind.

The obvious solution would be crush the tablet so it all absorbs faster. So, I did it. It worked, mega flush, good.

However the one thing on my mind is that every webpage you read, every bottle you read says "do not crush sustained release tablets"

I'm thinking/hoping that they only recommend this because crushing them makes them absorb instantly.

However, i was wondering, Is crushing them bad for your body in any other way? Perhaps there's something i don't know. Maybe there's something bad added in the sustained release that effects you negatively if ingested too fast.

Anyone know anything that can shine a light on this issue??

I'm hoping that crushing them only helps me absorb them faster. Helping me obtain the flush i need.

"Niacin s an extended-release product, which means once swallowed it released the medication slowly over the dosing period. If you crush or chew the tablet, you disrupt that process and the medication will not work properly. Essentially, breaking, crushing or chewing the tablet will make the medication ineffective and the condition you are taking it for will not be treated correctly. If you are having trouble with the size of the tablet, ask your physician if you can take two of the Niacin 500 mg tablets, which are a little smaller."

Pulled this off of "Everyday Health" website. hope it helps. don't think it pertains to the same thing we use it for but hey, imo, if you paid less than $10 for it, then get a regular bottle

I think its interesting how the website says it will make the medication 'ineffective', yet OP experienced the typical side of flushing when he crushed the pills, which to me, says it worked

Bcaasdirty, it's amazing indeed. However, I think maybe in a particular treatment it very well may not work the same way. But in a situation like the way those of us would use it, I don't believe we'd have any adverse effects. We're not trying to treat illness lol except loss of our great physique and diet lol

    ^^yea makes sense

Niacin will also help bring out vascularity before stepping on stage at a competition. Its just tough juggling listening to the PA announcer, hitting your poses AND dealing with an itchy scalp LOL

I think it used to be prevalent for precontest, but I dont' hear to much about guys taking it anymore.
