stimulants do have a tendency to improve muscular performance for some reason.

but this is a real slippery slope to rely on drugs for this purpose....

....better to rely on mental focus and sheer willpower if you ask me.

I've been taking caffeinated PWOs for three years straight and wish I hadn't started. Got so bad I was taking even stronger things (not OTC stuff) to get me energized for a work out.

TR is right (as usual).....rely on mental focus and sheer willpower. PWOs are addictive and once you develop a tolerance you'll be exceeding recommended doses. I won't even tell you what my resting HR is now, mostly becuz of the damn PWOs.

Fortunately I have weened myself off harder stuff and started cutting my PWOs in an effort to eliminate them completely!!!!

I'm wanting to do better on my pt test. I struggle with sit ups and figured it would give me a boost. I won't be using them after that

You will get a PT test next year and every year mate. If you start now with the stimulants, you'll use them next time too. Best to just tough it out.

Couple of things that will help you improve.

    Lose weight.

Do situps 3x a day. Make it hurt. Go as fast as you can while you do this. Try not to "pull" your head with your hands, else you will get a sore neck.

    Lose weight.

I took pure caffeine anhydrous once. Recommended dose was 500 mg. Thinking my tolerance was high I took 1 g......I will NEVER do that again!!!

I think what caffeine dose is it shocks the nervous system and prepares your body for a work out, so yes I would say that caffeine dose temporarily increase performance.

Yes! Caffeine INCREASES your performance - it's a stimulant - you need to time it well!

when i was in the service sit ups where my weak point. one thing that helped me was of course doing more sit up, but when time for the test throw form out the window. by that i mean when training i use ab muscle on the up and down movement, but during pt test ab muscle son up movement only and then fall back using as little muslc emovement as possible.

i am guessing you didnt reead the entire thread. the OP is worried about his PT test and is worried about sit up. i was suggesting as an alternative to caffeine something that may help during that test.
