Supplementing with vitamin D, what dose?

After a bit of research i've decided to start supplementing with vitamin D3. I've bought it in liquid oil form and it's 4000iu per serving.

Just curious on what doseage i should be looking at? seen various values floating around.
Was considering 12,000iu for a week then scaling down to 4000iu

Anyone else supplement this who could advise?

Well without blood test it is hard to determine if you are deficient in vitamin D. Large doses of D3 can be toxic so if blood work isn't an option then I would start really low 2-3iu per day and go from there. I personally have been taking 3iu/day D3 for about a year now and feel that dose is effective without being toxic.
