    Creatine and Dehydration?

    Quick one:

If you were to use creatine whilst drinking a very low amount of water per day, would the creatine draw fluid from everywhere else in the body (including subcutaneous water stores) to feed your muscle?
In other words, in a water deficit, could the creatine be used to reduce Sub Q water? Like a diuretic?

Honestly just sounds dangerous to me. I used to cramp so bad when I was on creatine even when I did drink enough

Not really the direction i was headding TR. I do understand that drinking more water, usually, is best for losing sub Q water as it singnals the body to release any water stores that its hanging onto.
I read an article the otherday, whilst doing more research on Creatine; It stated that if you didnt consume enough water, the creatine would draw water into the muscle from other areas of the body inc: Organs and Skin. So i was just interested to see if creatine could be used in such a way to reduce sub Q water. Not planning on doing this as it is obviously it would be dangerous and put some serious stress on you kidneys, not to mention the fact that the water would probably return as soon as you hydrated again, but i was interested none the less.

When I'm dehydrated, I just stop being dehydrated and become hydrated instead.

I know you can cramp up if you dont drink plenty of water while on creatine.

lol... far out lads read the question not the title of the thread before answering...
To simplify it: "can creatine be used to reduce subcutaneous fluid as it draws water from all over the body as well as water consumed?"

I see the point you're trying to get at, but from experience I'm going to say no. I get a 'bloated' look on creatine (as do many users). I assume you're looking to rid of subc fluid for competition purposes? If thats the case a good diuretic (I used taraxatone for my comp) and manipulating your water intake is going to the best (again, just in my experience) way of ridding pesky subc fluid.

    I hope that answers?

    Thanks BCD,

Im definately not preparing for a competition lol.
Im sitting at about 14% BF. The strange thing is i have got this F****** water retention over 70% of my body. Its down the sides of my calves, All over my thys and hammy's, over my abs and even through some parts of my arms. I can feel that its not fat, its very hard and watery looking and when i squeez my skin together it looks all cratered, like cellulite looking. Im convinced its not fat because im not storing fat in the areas that get fat, my skin is relitively tight in the areas where there is no water. Im currently sitting at 104kg and the last time i was at this weight i was shredded. I went on a creatine/dirty carb binge for like 3 months and then cut both out to a high protein diet for 6 weeks and lost 6kg. Now im left with this s**t all over me. Theres bumps and uneven squishy pockets all over my legs. I might just be imagining things but one of my rectus femoris has a big dent in the top end of it, like some area of my quaricep have retained their size but other areas have shrunk down crazy?? but in a really uneven way??... like its burst or something.... its doing my head in..

Iv tried everything imaginable to get rid of it apart from AAS or T3 etc. Im taking a trip to a naturopath shortly to see if she knows what i can do. i am swinging towards a kidney/liver/thyroid problem brought on by something.. I also discovered that my pre-workout has 1g of Creatine Mono in it so i have dropped it today - Not sure if that would have been the cause?

Interesting. The only time thats happened to me is after my show when i went on a shit binge LOL, but I was back to 'normal' after a few days. I dont thinkg 1g of creatine mono would cause bloating, speaking from experience, but again everyones different--although if I were a betting man I would say no.

Maybe trying to manipulate your h20 intake could help?

I dont know anything about dehydration but ill detail my waterloading technique I used for my show(show was on a saturday)

Sat 3gal, Sun 3gal, Monday 3gal, tues 3gal, wed 3gal, thurs 4-5gal, friday none, sat sparingly--I weighed 193lbs on Thursday night and 181lbs the morning of the show, putting a loss of 12lbs over the ~24hr period--and came in bone dry.

Your body functions on a negative feedback loop for water retention--the more water you intake, the less your body will produce the hormone for water retention. Inversely the less water you intake, the greater the amount of water retention hormone your body will produce.

    Just my thoughts

Extremely interesting. I always wondered how people went about water depletion. Good to know since I'm still inexperienced

    Cheers BCA

I'll give your protocol a shot next week..
Also I just got some ape by athletic edge nutrition. Read some good things about it. Claims to promote testosterone production whilst controlling estro and balancing hormones, also increases circulation.. I'm.thinking that my issue could be due.to a recent stint on.a testosterone recovery stack that didn't include an.anti. Estrogen factor, might have left me with a hormone imbalance that has resulted in a build up of sub q fat/fluid. For me that would be the scariest diagnosis, and I'd like to rule it out first.

    NP meng

I checked on ape (i thought it was a funny name too, im easily amused ><), and ill say im definitely not a fan of OTC test boosters but maybe with the claimed benefits of increasing circulation it could help. Give it a whirl and report back!
