whey protein shake post workout upsets stomach

    Hello all.

After all my workouts I drink one scoop of whey protein from Optimum Nutrition mixed with 8oz of coconut water.
Around 15-60 minutes later I get explosive almost all water diarrhea. (sorry if too graphic)
It also used to happen when I used just water instead of coconut water.

I realize I am probably allergic to the whey protein. Does this mean I am lactose intolerant? Or dairy intolerant? Or just whey intolerant?
Would I be able to stomach egg protein or casein protein?

Any answers or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Are you allergic to milk?

Have you tried a whey isolate?

    Casein is milk protein too!

Never really noticed myself being allergic to milk.
(I have pbj's and a large glass of milk maybe every other day.)

I think Optimum Nutrition whey protein is a whey isolate.

It's a blend of isolate, concentrate and hydrolysed. You may be ok with a straight isolate as there's less work for your gut to do to break it down. Plenty of folk in here handle isolate much better than concentrate.

Is there anything else in the I gradients (glut amine, sweetener etc) that you've ever had a problem with?

Whey isolate & hydro include 0 lactose.

Although not allergic to milk, I have had plenty of problems with whey concentrate in the past (bloating, killer protein farts, diarrhea like bowel movements), I am confident to say that your digestion issues will perish when you switch to a pure isolate.

Whey concentrate is crap anyways, you'll benefit by switching to a isolate on other levels also.
