Multivitamins won't boost health, waste of money: Researchers - CBS News

Was just about to post this myself, it's been all over the news in the UK as well about how multi vitamins are nothing but a waste of money now apparently.
Yet in another breath, the media is printing THIS DOOZY:
A 14p per day tablet could help ease arthritis pain for millions | Health | News | Daily Express
So basically the media is telling us to stop wasting time on multi vitamins and focus on this new pill that prevents arthritis in old age.
I wonder how many of these anti vitamin studies are basing their conclusions on people that eat the fortified/enriched super processed foods and neglecting to consider the group of people that eat less processed/cleaner foods?
I dont know. You can use stats to prove/disprove anything you want.
i was thinking more along the lines of people who do not train or exercise. i could see them having no benefit from taking multi v's, but for someone who exerts a lot of energy training, i would think he/she would need more vitamins/minerals to help aide in repair and other normal body functions.
Yeah, but people who exert themselves typically consume more food too.
This finding wasn't telling us anything we didn't already know though. We knew they were all pretty much useless to those who eat a good diet. I'm really going to be waiting for the supplement industry to come up with their next big gimmick.
They are just insurance. There arent really any studies proving vitamins do anything. Still i wouldnt take nutrition advice from the news. They nitpick and publish anything that will get people to watch/read. It's up to you to do independant research on supplements and everything else. That's the best way to stay updated and informed.
