Prilosec or generic works fantastic. If it's a constant issue for you then you should probably see a doc and consider getting scoped to check for esophageal issues such as Barretts Syndrome.

I like Rantidine for instant relief (ZANTAC)
Also Apple Cider Vinegar real helps too.

    Good info!

Aside from OTC, apple cider vinegar actually works. Hurts for a few seconds then all better (assuming its caused by excess acid).

I've been suffering from it for the past 10 years. Started out with zantac, then went with prilosec oct, then finally got a prescription for nexium (works wonders!) but my insurance doesn't cover it so I take lanzoprazol which is generic. I know your pain!

I think I went to get nexium without a prescription a few years ago and it was like $179 or something. So I use generic prilosec. I get massive heartburn from soda and tomato sauce. Energy drinks are the absolute worst for it though.

I had certain supplements that gave me heartburn after a while, i would be curious to see what other drugs, supplements etc that you are taking, could contribute.

Only thing that gives me heartburn are oral steroids. If a double dose of otc prilosec doesn't do the trick, then you need to make a appointment with your PCP

I have never tried this but I read once that drinking acid drink like lemonade will push acid higher which will help trigger feedback loop to stop stomach cells from making more acid leading to relief.

When all else fails couldnt hurt to give that a try. Sometimes you have to fight fire with fire.

    this is the best.

it's a preventative, and you need it in your system for at least 24 hours to kick in.

    Prilosec = no more AR

    waaay better than zantac

+1 on Prilosec. It works great as long as you stick with it. In the mean time I've always found tums to work immediately, although they don't last all that long. They're still the best for instant relief.

interesting Jimmy. I guess glutamine is a fairly basic compound so it neutralizes acid.

    Mr. Jimmy,

what's the theory behind glutamine working?

I guess I could google it, but the eggs are almost done cooking and it's time to eat!

I used to have painful heartburn also. I have been taking generic priolosec for about 6 months and haven't experienced heartburn but twice when I stopped taking the daily dose to see what would happen. On Amazon it costs about 16 for a 45 day supply. But it'll be the best $15 you spend!
