Solid food is always better choice than powder bossman.

If your eating enought. U wouldn't need a mass gainer or shake at all. That's what ppl are trying to tell u.

Weigh your food for a day or two. Add up the amount of calories you have been eating.

Next figure out what your tdee is.( plenty of online sites that will do this for u) after u do that. You can better see if your eating enough. Maybe your not and a mass gainer is needed to get it to the right amount. (Real food will work better then a shake)

    Good luck

I used a mass gainer when I was first trying to get big. Honestly, it worked. But I did put on a decent amount of fat and Im a guy who has abs even when I bulk so thats a lot coming from me. You can make home made weight gainers what I do is add 1 cup egg whites, 1 cup oats, 1 scoop of isolate, 2 tbsp of peanut butter and I want to say this is in the 7-800 calorie range? Im not really measuring macros at the moment so its not fresh in my head.

If you decide to go the weight gainer route look for gainers with MCT oils. Also look at which carb sources they are using. There are some higher end gainers on the market now but they still wont be as healthy for your body as making a home made one and the price would be much much cheaper having it home made as well.

I'll add in home made mass gainers as you guys have suggested!

if i eat oats for breakfast, is it necessary to add them in the protein shake again?
That all depends on your diet and goals

Getting 300 above maintenance should be easily doable without a weight gainer

You're looking for a cookie cutter answer, which doesn't exist. If your goal is to add QUALITY pounds you need to start increasing calories and see how your body responds.

However there are any # of intangibles that come into play; what macros do you increase? in what meal? how do you respond to certain foods?

That is highly unlikely anyone at that level of athletic achievement eats clean, trains constantly, probably is on every performance enhancer out there..just because you see a Olympic show with them eating mc Donald's doesn't mean that's how they eat all the time..besides do you train all day long?do you have super human genetics and supplements?

The only thing that is going to grow you up is cooking and trainning . When they teii me about "mass gainers" i hear lot s of sugars that become fats.
Train with heavy weights and upgrade your protein intake... try to take protein only for food
    ..and read the nutrition section
