    Vitamin D 5,000iu VS. 10,000iu

I was diagnosed with Low Vitamin D a few years back. I have taken 5,000iu's everyday for about 4 years.

I had my Vitamin D level tested last week.

    Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy 42.1 30.0-100.0 ng/mL

I had the blood drawn in the morning, I take the Vitamin D in the evening.

For the amount of Vitamin D I take daily I kind of expected it to be higher.

I was wondering if anyone has increased their Vitamin D from 5,000iu's to 10,000iu's and noticed a difference?

Yes, I run 10K per day and have for years. Keeps me in the 80's on the range given. Make sure you take your D with a large meal as it's fat soluble and absorbs better this way. Up your dose and check BW in a month and see how you do. Don't go above the upper limit though as over time if it remains to high it can become toxic, again due to it being fat soluble.

I was about your age when it happened to me. Monitor your Calcium levels and make sure you are drinking a lot of water. I take 10K as well for years.

    Thanks guys for the advice!

That was my only concern, the potential toxicity. I'll increase it and monitor it with blood work.

I have been taking 10,000iu's for a little over a week. One thing I noticed is that I feel physically cooler and I don't seem to be sweating as much.

Odds are you won't feel anything. I'm still not clear. Are you saying you were on 5K iu's of D and were still at 28 on a scale of 30-100? Or is this prior to supplementation? If prior, what are your current levels on 5K daily?

Sorry should have clarified Kel. Found out I was at 28ng/ml on a 30-100 scale. Doc put me on 5000 daily after finding out I was at 28. I haven’t had a chance to go back and get levels read. The 28 test was done back in March of 2016

Ditto re: Taking 10,000 IUs with a meal. Was deficient for years and 10,000 definitely made a difference.

Of course it’s easier to eat a pill but if you can swing it... take a 15-30 min walk in the sun to start out with. I had low levels on my BW years ago, did the supps, got to normal range but still low end

I try to make it a habit to give the dog a good walk everyday now or at least walk outside on a lunch break. I still take a multi vitamin that has it in there but it’s like 500iu only

Getting actual sunlight fixed my levels personally. Try it if you can swing 15-30 mins a day

Currently I'm taking 8 drops or 4000 iu of prescription vit d3 in mornings (because my endocrinologist directed so), in sunny days I usually decrease the dose. I've been on it for almost 9 years now, that's it.

And where do your levels usually land?

Well, the labcorp scale is normally 30-100. You've got room to bump it up a bit imho.
I run 10K IU's daily which keeps me in the 80's consistently.
