    Exogenous Ketones Supplement

    Hi friends,

Giving Keto a second try as my first attempt was poor and done incorrectly.

Trying to find a supplement that is either straight ketones or ketones + BCAA but haven't had much luck. A lot of them tend to be expensive (ie 2g BHB, 30 servings, $45) or have tons of junk I don't want (vitamins, minerals, added fat, caffeine, etc).

Anyone have any reccomensations ? So far the only one I have seen that looks good is from Ketogenix called Recomp.

If anyone uses MCT oil and has a recommendation for that as well let me know.

Just a self update - bought a Ketone Supplement a few ? days ago - Straight BHB 2.5g per serving, with a small sprinkling of B Vitamins. I found the easiest way to validate the product was eat a carb meal with exogenous ketones. I stayed in Ketosis.

how did you determine that your brain was actually still functioning off of Ketones and not glucose ?
how did you determine wither your liver was actually still producing Ketones, or wither you were just testing for ketones you just got a reading from which were just the exogenous ketones in your blood stream ?

I'd think that exogenous ketones can really only work IF your body (mainly your brain) is actually using them for energy . if your brain is not using them for energy, then your not really in ketosis even though you may be pissing out ketones (ie, getting rid of) on a ketone pee strip.

just a thought.. that your body has to actually utilize the supplement in order for that supplement to be effective.

ONE way to find out for sure . inject 20iu of insulin and eat NO carbs . if you pass out, go into a coma, die, etc.. then your brain was not using the ketones for fuel and was reliant on glucose . IF however after the injection and no carbs your going about just fine with no ill effects, then your really in ketosis and the supplement is feeding your brain Ketones for energy and not glucose
    fun experiment eh

When I didn't use the supplement with just carbs I got bloated, felt the crash / postperanial dip, and I got a negative keto test. Plus I've had an increase in performance.

My anecdote / subjective observations + blood reading + Dom's testing of exogenous ketones is enough validation for me.

the experiment I mentioned with insulin and ketosis has actually already been done.
just goes to show how Ketones can be 'brain protective' to a certain degree. and using exogenous Ketones for people that are say deep sea divers for example , or even just your average gym rat using high dose insulin, can possibly be of benefit.
lots of possibilities out there. we already know the benefits on epilepsy, possible dementia, Alzheimers etc..

You may not be in metabolic ketosis, you just happen to show ketones because of consuming them exhaugenously. That is an important distinction because it’s a totally different metabolic state.
