GABA is great, however, from supplementation, very little, if any at all, will cross the blood brain barrier. If you really want the GABA effects, you should take L-Theanine at 800mg daily split into 2 doses (400mg each), this will boost your natural production with numerous added benefits.

Melatonin and Benadryl have helped me sleep in the past for a basic over the counter option. There's also a sleep combo from a few brands that contains Melatonin + L-Theanine + Trytophane.

I used Gabapentin before and found it useless - it's a pharmaceutical analog to GABA, and is somewhat halfway between a benzo and narcotic. YMMV.

Well, it's addictive, maybe not as much as phenibut, but it still is. I would suggest at first to try maybe 5htp. Good luck!

Along the lines of what austinite said, it's said that if you try GABA and get a good effect from it, it means that your blood-brain barrier is compromised. (and that's just the sort of knowledge that helps to reduce, anxiety, don'tcha think? )

I use it as part of a multi-supplement approach to sleeping better that seems to work well for me. I combine it with 9 mg of melatonin split into timed doses beginning about 2 hour before bed time, the last dose of 6 mg of a 50/50 instant and timed release formula. I take the GABA right before going to bed. The important thing to understand with GABA is that it also affects the respiratory tract. If you take too much, it can make it difficult to breath for an hour or so. This can be quite frightening, if not down right dangerous if there are other complications of the respiratory tract. I have found that if I limit my dose to 500 mg, the respiratory effect is mild and tolerable.

Ive had issues sleeping a lot of my life. I swear by the peptide dsip. It gives you a much better quality sleep and deep delta wave sleep. Get ready for some crazy dreams though...
