Have him find a functional medicine doctor or integrative health practitioner that can monitor him and run testing. I appreciate you looking out for your friend but coming off heavy drugs is a lot more than replacement Drug A with supplement B. It needs to be done and controlled by a professional.

People have died from high doses of supplements like 5-HTP.

Your friend may need all of those supplements, only parts, or something different entirely like magnesium.

Again, it's very noble that you are looking out for your friend, but the very best thing you can do for him is source the proper professional.

    This ^^^^
Please this. A lot of these drugs are no joke and something only a medical professional should be dealing with.

Totally agree with the above posts. Your friend will need to be weaned off these meds by gradually tapering down the dosage and needs to be monitored by a healthcare professional.

As the other guys eluded to, it is over simplified to expect him to transition from prescribed medication to supplements.

First things first, if the is mental problems are solved as you say..... why are you looking to taper him onto something different? Your statement is contradictory..... the problems are solved but he can't live without them..... which one is it?

Secondly..... without having a period of time without the drugs you cannot say whether or not his difficulties are solved? There is also the possibility that he may experience some form of withdrawal syndrome or relapse.

Thirdly..... why do you want him off of these drugs? If he wants off of them he can see a psychiatrist for support and a reducing regime

If you do manage to convince him to try your way, you will potentially do more damage than the drugs are doing and make him hold onto them even more.

    Leave this one alone.
