Does anyone know if flaxseed powder is as good as the oil, I can get a 2.5 pound bag of the powder for $10 bucks.

I spoke with another guy who told me something that made me really think. He told me that the flax seed is the perfect "unit" because the oil itself oxidizes very quickly. If you buy a coffee grinder and a bag of seed, you have one of the most economical sources of short-chained fatty acids. Vac sealed bags of pregrinded seeds just dont cut it.

I tried this, but then I realized I am allergic to flax seed. OOPS!

This makes sense. Short chained fatty acids oxidize quickly. That is why in junk food there are usually high amounts of fat (usually long chained) and saturated fat. In the hopes of longer shelf life (and something stupid called mouthfeel), manufacturers sometimes remove short chained fatty acids or seek ingredients that contain very little of them.
