Cold bath log.
I’m trying cold baths three times a week. Mostly to see if it improves inflammation, plus any other health benefits. Or if I’ve just been wasting my time and effort.
I was going to include it into my training log. But after a bit of thought it might be best to start a new thread. If it turns out to be beneficial it will be easier to look back at it.
From what I’ve been researching 10 degrees c or 50 degrees f seems to be the sweet spot for 6 minutes. I don’t think I’ll get down to that temp. I’ll be doing it Tuesday and Thursday nights after training, and either a Saturday or Sunday morning first thing.no open source posting

This was the first try on Tuesday night.
16 degrees c about 60f for 8 minutes. I got most of body in, up to my chin and just small part of my quads and knees were out of the water. If I’d have been a normal sized human I would have been fucked, going to try it three times a week.no open source posting

Tonight the outside temperature was 10 degrees c cooler than Tuesday. Plus I have 6 Ice packs in the freezer that I used upon filling, which got the temperature down to 15 degrees c or 59f. Tonight I managed to fill the bath so the water was running out of the overflow, and it was enough to keep my knees and quads submerged. When I first got in there wasn’t the same shock and my breathing didn’t spike like it did on Tuesday. But it did feel noticeably colder and by the end I had a little bit of a shiver going on. I spent 8 minutes submerged.

I had another bath first thing this morning. Out temp was 3c 37f so bath temp was 14c 57f. It felt colder, slightly more shivering.
If I had the time, I think I would do it first thing during the week as well.no open source posting

Colder outside = colder in the tub. 13c 55f tonight for 8 minutes. It again felt colder, but nothing took my breath away like the first one last week.

Another 13c 55f for 8 minutes again tonight. The only thing that I’m noticing so far, is my hunger go’s up dramatically after. More so than exercise.

I think 50f is (supposed) to be the magic temperature. But I’m too tight to pay for ice every time.
I might just update this log once a week. Not much but me repeating myselfno open source posting

I’ve still been doing it, three times a week for 8 minutes a time.
I think it is helping with my sore knees. So that and increased appetite post plunge is the only two noticeable things so far.
Tonight it was the coldest so far 12c so 54f and just dropping that extra 1c felt colder.no open source posting

I googled ice baths one time - on Facebook I’ve now seen at least 4 adds for different makes of ice baths. I guess you’re not alone.

Still been doing the cold baths three times a week. Except a couple of weeks ago I had man cold so had a week off. Felt a niggle start to come back in my right knee, subsided when I started them back up again.
Snow and ice outside now -4c. So bath water is down to 8c so about 46f coldest it’s been. Dropped time in the bath from 8 minutes to 6 minutes.no open source posting
