always mix it up, and heavy free weights,
i do crazy amounts of sets while on cycle, one body part a day....real heavy. For my next cycle though i want to do less sets and see if my body responds to it differently.
I like to just lift heavy freeweights. No machines at all, cuz they take away alot from exercises IMO. Just tons of freeweights and 6-8 reps per set.
Not on cycle, but, I definitely prefer freeweights. Try your best to stay away from the Smith. This will help build upi your stabilizer muscles.
