Some pro's dont even exercise abs.
It's seems to be the popular opinion that pure cardio is best...I agree for the msot part. 1000 crunches a day won't do a thing if your fat % is too high. Personally, I do a quick ab superset everyday but nothing too serious....Cardio is the one thing that will really help them be seen.
Yeah, you need to drop your body fat with good diet and cardio, but exercise-wise i like hanging leg raises and decline crunches.
for building them, i agree with hanging leg raises.
for shaping them, cardio.
Cardio, EVERYONE has abs!. Every see the victims of famine?, they've all got Abs!. I'm not making light of famines etc but really, everyone them. If you can some fat covering your abs you won't see them, and indeed you may increase your waist size from doing too much ab work.
But then again, its VERY important to have strong abs so don't neglect them either.
i imagine he's talking about increasing abdominal strength?.....Squats and more squats...throw in some deadlifts too....if u want, throw in the crunches 2 times a week, i prefer using weighted ball behind my head and on the big ball to isolate my abs.
for definition...yea diet and cardio...
The oldtime strongmen had abs of granite... and they didn't do crunches. Look at guys like Eugene Sandow or Otto arco who trained before crunches were even heard of. Additionally, cardio and a good diet will take the fat off like everyone has said above.
The most helpful ab exercises I've found:
1. Situps with weight behind the head (not on chest because that makes it easier)
2. Hanging leg raises with weight on the feet
3. Heavy side bends for the obliques
4. The vacuum
I do the vacuum upon waking every morning for 5-10 minutes . The others I incorporate into my routine one on each day MWF.
