    Dead Lifts vs Leg press

Alright I play football and I recently got in an argument with a friend who does also. He does not dead lift and I said that he should and that he is stupid not to. He claims that leg press works the same muscle and is the same thing. Now I know this is not true but I could think of the reasons. what are the reasons, I can think of dead lifts being a lot better for explosiveness and your back (if done right, we have hex bars so form is a little easier) any other reasons?

dead lifts do not promote any kind of explosion, it is a slow movement and "skill" positions usually dont do it as well as sprinters, but leg press works your legs and dead lifts work your entire body almost, from your traps to your back.

Deadlifts are for your back mainly, but do get your legs and traps, shoulders and forearms 2ndarily.

Leg presses work your legs only.

Agreed Deadlifts to me have always been a "powerhouse" type of exercise. I don't like deadlifts cause the risk of injury is high, but it is a great exercise. I do them but not that often and I usually do them at the beginnin so that I have alot of energy and not to tired so that I can keep good form.

Are they less effective when using a Hex bar?

More strain on the shoulder joints...get that weight out in front of you, it's more of a natural lift.

When I say in front of you, I mean along the front of your legs.

Deadlifts are a multi muscle exersice And leg presses are a single muscle IE quads....
