I was wondering if I should be doing high weight low reps or if i should drop the weight and do high reps so i can try and lean out

Stay as heavy as you can.
If you send a "lighter" message to your muscles, they'll atrophy w/the reduction of kcals and the message being sent that they do not have to remain as strong to lift as they once did. (when u lift lighter your muscles don't think they have to lift as heavy anymore, and they will shrink. A reduction in kcals does not help the cause either)
