What would be a better rep scheme for barbell shrugs?
3 sets reps of 15,12,10 all while increasing the weight each set or 3 sets reps of 10,8,6 all while increasing the weight each set?

For me the higher reps on the shrugs seem to work better then the low reps.
I like the first but again it may also depend on what other bodypart you are working ie. shoulders. I mix it up and also like doing desending sets ie. heavy few reps, drop weight increase reps. Hits all muscle fiber makeup.
Try both schemes to see what works best for you. I think if you already have done exercises that hits traps, i.e., deads, uprights, cleans, etc. then, I would jump into the heavy weight for 6-8 reps.
i just do 3 sets of 12 throughout while increasing the wights at the same time.
i find the same. i always stay above 10 reps, normally around 15.Originally Posted by BigMike J
ditto...higher reps do 'feel' more effective on shrugs...A heavy drop-set tossed in at the end would make the workout more efective IMO
I think I'm gonna go with 12,10,8 and add weight each set.
what i noticed gets my trapz growing is this routine my freind made me try
UPRIGHTS 4-6sets,reps 8-12
followed by DUMBBELL SHRUGS 50lbs or 80lb depending how i feel and shiznit 4sets of shrugs anywhere from 25reps to about 50reps or til failure, its being very noticeable in growth as well as cuts:/
