Deadlift is an exercise where I wouldn't do until you have the form down, like squats. You could really mess your back up.

deadlifts and squats, once mastered, the two most beneficial exercises i believe there are. but if performed wrongly over a period of time, or just one bad rep with a heavy weight, bad things aplenty can occur

concur away my good fellow, concur away!

I concur as well. Round off your back with heavy ass deads for even ONE rep and it can spell bad news.

Would it be smart to use a belt?

I never use a belt while deadlifting. Not using a belt helps strengthen your core, but I don't see it being bad when you start out.

haha i concure too i started doing powerlifting with my h.s. football team and always had horrible form on squats and power cleans and that is why i have some back problems now , although they are not too bad my chiro says i have a twist and a slight curve in my spine which has caused some serious pain in the past it sucks IMO though

less weight + good form > more weight + shatty form

I guess you're right. That guy looks like he's going to break his back every rep.
